Elda Perez Acevedo, 78, a longtime resident of Freer, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 20, 2025, at a hospital in Corpus Christi, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on October 26, 1946, at Buena Vista Ranch in Duval County to her parents, Guadalupe and Amalia Perez. Elda attended school in Freer and was employed for over 20 years with Freer ISD as a cafeteria worker.
A devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elda was also one of the founding members of the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed being outdoors, cooking for her family, listing to music, watching game shows, playing Bingo and Chalupa, and taking trips to Kickapoo.
Elda was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cresencio S. "Chencho" Acevedo; her parents, Guadalupe and Amalia Perez; her brother, Ugo Perez; granddaughter, Amalia Grace Acevedo.
Elda is survived by her three sons, Jorge Luis Acevedo of Freer, Texas; Cresencio (Marisela) Acevedo Jr. of Freer, Texas; Larry Joe Acevedo of Mesquite, Texas; one daughter, Christy Rebecca Acevedo (Daniel Martinez) of Corpus Christi, Texas; one brother, Erasmo (Sandra) Perez of Robstown, Texas; one sister, Janie (Rolando) Lerma of Freer, Texas; ten grandchildren, Marc, Victoria, Madelyn, E.J., Malory, Daniel Jr., Desmond, Kaylah, Madison, Micah; two great grandchildren, Kamila and A.J.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Garza Funeral Home in Freer, Texas with a Rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m. that morning. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Freer, Texas. Interment will follow at the Hahl Memorial Cemetery in Freer, Texas.
