Elda "Ellie" Allerheiligen

Elda “Ellie” Sophie Gleue Allerheiligen, age 101, passed away on December 4, 2025, at The Lighthouse in Marysville, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, at Kinsley Mortuary from 1 to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 12, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. Pastor Philip Miller will officiate.

The pallbearers will be Amy Weiss, Rebekah Rumfelt, Tim Allerheiligen, Mike Allerheiligen, Morgan Reed, and Eric Wright.

The honorary pallbearers are Jeff Crist, Sara Naaf, Colleen Nemec, BG Weiss, Tyler Rumfelt, Kirstie Allerheiligen, and Tracy Wright.

Burial will follow in the Marysville City Cemetery.

She was born on February 8, 1924, in rural Bremen, Kansas, to Henry D. and Sophie (Duensing) Gleue. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and graduated from the eighth grade at Bethlehem Lutheran School in 1938. In the mid-1970s, she studied for and received her GED diploma, fulfilling a longtime personal goal.

In her younger years, Ellie worked for several area families as a nanny and housekeeper. On May 30, 1943, she was united in marriage to Clarence “CW” Allerheiligen at the Gleue home while he was on leave from the Army Air Corps. The couple first lived in the southern United States until CW was deployed to Europe during World War II, at which time Ellie returned to her parents’ farm. After his return, they settled in Marysville, where Ellie devoted herself to being a homemaker while their children grew up. She later took driver’s education and earned her driver’s license in the late 1960s.

Ellie was an accomplished seamstress who created many of the family’s clothes and also did upholstery, curtains, and draperies. She enjoyed embroidery as well. In the early 1960s, Ellie and CW built and opened The Country Kitchen restaurant. They later partnered in, started, and worked at the A&G Burger Bar and Fiesta La Grande during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

After retirement, Ellie and CW embraced their love of travel, exploring the United States and Europe. One of Ellie’s most treasured memories was flying on the Concorde from Paris to New York, an experience she delighted in sharing.

Ellie was also an enthusiastic sports fan. She and CW held season tickets for the Kansas City Royals, KU and K-State football, and K-State basketball, and they loved cheering on their favorite teams together.

Ellie was a gifted cook and baker. She especially loved decorating for Christmas and filling her home with all kinds of homemade treats. Sharing trays of cookies as gifts brought her great joy. CW and Ellie loved to entertain, and she delighted in preparing meals for friends, church groups, and, most of all, for family gatherings.

Her faith was a steady and inspiring presence. Ellie taught Sunday School, sang alto in the church choir for many years, and was a devoted member of the LWML and the Mt. Calvary Friendship Circle from its beginning to its end—a span of nearly 70 years. She also served on the Altar Guild and always cherished the Ladies Bible Study.

Ellie was a loving and devoted mother who set a Christian example for her three sons and one daughter, always offering a listening ear and never passing judgment. She dearly loved her grandchildren and found joy in teaching them to bake and sew. She lit up around her great-grandchildren, greeting them each time with hugs and kisses. Ellie was generous with her time and resources, faithfully supporting her church, local schools, and the Marysville community.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Clarence Allerheiligen; son, David Allerheiligen; grandson, Kevin Allerheiligen; sisters, Lorena Gleue, Velma Torphy, Arline Robinson, and Felma Doane; brother and sisters-in-law, Walter Torphy, Will Robinson, Roy Doane, Jim Swim, Olga and Woody Downing, Helen and Paul Rettig, Otto and Ethel Allerheiligen, Gertie and Warren Whited, and former daughter-in-law, Judy Ford.

Survivors include her children, Mark (Dawn) Allerheiligen, Bremen, KS, Carol (Rick) Wright, Scottsdale, AZ, and Steve (Sherry) Allerheiligen, Loveland, CO; daughter-in-law, Lydia Allerheiligen, San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Amy (BG) Weiss, Louisville, Co, Morgan Reed, Eric (Tracy) Wright, Marysville KS, Rebekah (Tyler) Rumfelt, Tim Allerheiligen, Loveland, CO, Mike (Kirstie) Allerheiligen, Albuquerque, NM, Kelley (Patrick) Frost, San Antonio, TX, Chris (Claudia) Surbey, Santa Monica, CA; great-grandchildren, Alexis Weiss, Madison, WI, Petyon Weiss, Louisville, CO, Callion, Axel, and Rhyatt Reed, Maddox, Kannon, and Brecken Wright, Marysville, KS, Felix and Winston Allerheiligen, Alburquerque, NM, Patrick (Alana) Frye, Dallas, TX, Katie (Brady) Haag, San Antonio, TX, C.J.
