It is with deep sadness and reverence that we announce the passing of Elder Alexander Eugene James Sr., who transitioned to eternal rest on February 2, 2026, at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Hospital in
Boardman, Ohio. He was 81 years old.
Born on June 18, 1944, in Jenkinjones, West Virginia, Alexander was a beloved son of Lula Mae Smith-James and Curtis Caldwell Sr., and the stepson of Jesse James. He was baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the Holy Ghost, dedicating his life to serving God as an Elder and teacher of the Word. His ministry included outreach evangelism and active participation under the leadership of Pastor Al Cooper of Living Testimony Ministries, Pastor Todd Revis of Revealing Truth Tabernacle, and Apostle Wayne L. Penny Sr. of Perfecting Faith International Church.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Elder Alexander served his country honorably attaining the rank of Airman Second Class. Following his military service, he worked diligently in the Youngstown Steel Mill before becoming a successful trucking entrepreneur, retiring from his own trucking business.
Elder Alexander had a remarkable passion for teaching God's Word, imparting knowledge and faith to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His heartfelt testimonies of God's goodness resonated with all who met him. A true Southern culinary master, he delighted family and friends with his amazing culinary skills, particularly renowned for his mouth-watering barbecued ribs and lavish breakfast spreads which filled the James home with warmth and love.
Elder Alexander is survived by his cherished children: Carla "CeCe" Tate of Youngstown, Ohio, Alexander (Tonya) James Jr. of Northfield, Ohio, Leah (Robert) Jordan, Travis (Ashley) James, both of Youngstown, Ohio, Cedric (Anieka) Martin, Stephanie (Tony) Pittman, both of Columbus, Ohio, and stepdaughter Cara M. James of Youngstown, Ohio. He leaves behind a loving legacy of 25 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, along with his brother Orlando James Sr. a host of family and friends who will deeply miss him.
As his faith became sight, Alexander was reunited in eternity with his beloved wife of 58 years, Gloria E. Caldwell-James, and six children: John, Eric, Michael Oniel, twin boys Derick and Jarick, and Thymian. He was also predeceased by his parents; stepfather; three sisters, Doretha Caldwell, Geraldine Lott, and Elesteen Smith, and brother Curtis L. James Sr.
In this time of reflection, let us celebrate the life of a remarkable man whose legacy of faith, family, and friendship will forever resonate in our hearts. There will be a 10:00 AM public viewing on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the Jaylex Event Center, 2110 Glenwood Ave., Youngtown, OH. After the committal ceremony, Elder Alexander will be laid to rest, alongside his wife, at Belmont Park Cemetery. His spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him.
