Eldon Benningfield of Campbellsville, son of the late Sammie T. Benningfield and Rinnie L. Short Benningfield, was born May 2, 1939 in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died at 8:25 P.M., Monday, December 15, 2025 in Campbellsville. Age: 86
He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church.
Eldon served his country honorably in the United States Army National Guard.
He was a retired traveling salesman.
Eldon loved the outdoors. He spent many hours hunting, fishing and searching for Morel mushrooms; “Dry Land Fish”. He had an uncanny sense of finding the precious few places where they still grew; much to the enjoyment of his family and friends. He was an avid fan of University of Kentucky athletics, mainly basketball, and was always quick with a joke.
He united in marriage to Judy Sapp, June 15, 1958.
Besides his wife, Judy Benningfield of Campbellsville, he is survived by two sons: Ron Benningfield and wife, Laura of Campbellsville and Sam Benningfield and wife, Nancy of Sparta, Tn; one son-in-law: Jim Haston of Smithville, TN; five grandchildren: Dustin Benningfield of Nashville, TN, Leah Murphy and husband, Bo of Hendersonville, TN, Jillian Benningfield of Louisville, KY, Chloe Benningfield of Lexington, Ky and Beisil Castro and wife, Tania of Sparta, TN; six great-grandchildren: Sadie Benningfield, Emmie Benningfield, Maggie Benningfield, Nora Murphy, Callahan Murphy and Tomas Castro; one sister: Shirley Coffey of Campbellsville; ; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter: Marsha Benningfield; two brothers and six sisters: Ralph Benningfield, Glenn Benningfield, Madlyn Parrott, Ruby Morris, Dewell Richerson, Majeal Hutchins, Jenny Underwood, and Juanita Newton.
