Eldon Westra, age 83 of Sioux Center, IA, died Saturday, May 17, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

A private family committal service will be held prior to the memorial service at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 22nd at Covenant Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, Reverend Joel Kok officiating.

Memorial contributions in Eldon’s honor can be directed to Sioux Center Health.

Eldon Ray Westra was born on July 28, 1941, in Sioux Center, IA, the son of Sam and Johanna (Sinkey) Westra. He grew up in Ireton, IA and attended the Ireton Christian School thru the 8th grade. He then graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull, IA in 1959. Eldon went on to college at Long Beach State in Long Beach, CA for three years where he studied accounting.

On May 8, 1971, he was united in marriage to Marcia Kramer at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church. They made their home in Sioux Center for 54 years and he was a proud father to their three children Steven, Amy, and Brian.

He worked for the city of Sioux Center as their Finance Director for 36½ years. He was a charter member of Covenant Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, where he served as deacon and treasurer for many years.

Eldon could often be found with a book or kindle in his hands reading about historical and political interests. He enjoyed singing all his life, especially singing in groups, but was not afraid to offer up a solo. He was very proud of developing the family campground in Yankton, SD. At Live Oak Resort in Florida, he built many relationships while wintering there the last five years. He loved spending time with family and friends.

Left to cherish Eldon’s memory are his wife, Marcia Westra, of Sioux Center, IA; three children: Steven (Kari) Westra of Sioux Center, IA, Amy Westra of Sioux Center, IA, and Brian (Mindy) Westra of Sheldon, IA; grandsons: Joshua, Samuel, and Caleb; granddaughters: Hannah, Carlie, Alissa, Abby, and Anneke; his in-laws, Allan (Carol) Kramer, Gloria Warren, Loretta (Lyle) Myers, Norman (Glenda) Kramer, Carol Yacko, Dorene Vander Zwaag, Maryjane Westra; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Johanna Westra, his brothers Marlin and Donald Westra, a sister-in-law, Myrna, and two brothers-in-law, David Vander Zwaag and John Warren.
