Eleanor Mae Kushner Dinitz of Springfield, MA, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2023. Born on February 9, 1940, Eleanor's kindness and sensitivity touched the lives of many.
A proud alumna of Wheelock College, Eleanor embarked on her journey after graduating, teaching grade school children in New York City. From Springfield and New York to Stamford, Tokyo, and then Westport, each chapter of her life told a story of exploration and endless learning.
Eleanor was predeceased by her loving parents, Nadie and Joe Kushner, and her dear brother, Bruce. She is fondly remembered by her surviving brother, Bob, her sisters-in-law, Betty and Connie, and their families.
Eleanor was also predeceased by her devoted husband, Arthur, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond and deep love that spanned over thirty years. Their love story was one for the ages. Together, they traveled the world, including their many trips to Israel, enjoying the time spent with his family there. They cherished every moment, whether working side by side in the office, traveling together, or spending time with a myriad of friends and family. Their shared laughter, joys, and dreams were the foundation of a life rich in memories and love.
Eleanor's legacy is beautifully reflected in her children and grandchildren. Her love for them was both profound and boundless. Her son, Jeffrey Fuhrman (Emily) of New Canaan, along with her grandchildren Sage and Ginger, will deeply miss her warmth and caring nature. Her daughter, Wendy Owens (Tom) of Marion, MA, along with her grandchildren-Nicole Bellefeuille (fiancé Max Araya), Olivia Bellefeuille, Jackson Owens, and Caroline Owens-will hold dear the priceless memories and moments she shared with them.
With a penchant for fashion, Eleanor owned and ran a unique women's boutique in Stamford, CT, named "Thru the Garage." She brought style and flair to the community, always dressed to impress with her signature clothing and unmistakable lipstick.
Eleanor had a distinct sense of humor, which she took pride in, consistently bringing joy and levity to countless moments. Her gardens were a testament to her nurturing soul, and her travels, especially with family, filled her heart with joy. Later in life, Eleanor discovered a passion for painting, proudly showcasing her talents in exhibitions and within her own home. A lifelong lover of the arts, she imparted this appreciation to her descendants, ensuring it remains an enduring legacy.
Eleanor Mae Kushner Dinitz was a woman defined by love, art, and style, leaving a legacy that will forever be cherished and remembered.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Temple Israel, 14 Coleytown Rd., Westport, CT, with interment following at Temple Israel Cemetery, 225 Richards Ave., Norwalk, CT. Shiva will be observed at the Fuhrman residence in New Canaan, CT on Friday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and Saturday from 12:00-3:00 p.m. For more information and to share a condolence message, visit
