Eleanor B. Gibson, age 103, of Marietta, GA passed away May 13, 2025. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:30pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. The family will receive friends from 11am until 12:30pm at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta.
Mrs. Gibson was born on November 11, 1921 to James "Jim" G. Bamberg (1888-1976) and Blanche Jones Bamberg (1901-1983) on Glenwild Plantation, Grenada, Mississippi. Before fully retiring in her 70's, she made a career of bookkeeping for various car dealerships and other businesses. She loved reading, quilting, gardening, studying Genealogy, and traveling with her family, especially to Charleston, SC, where many happy hours were spent on the screened porch of the cottage and watching the container ships coming into Charleston Harbor.
She is preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Ann Dillehay Curtis (1943-2023), a sister, Mary Lillian Bamberg Kinney (1926-1957), brothers, Harold Bamberg (1930-2003) and William E. "Gene" Bamberg (1932-2015), husband, Arlin Basil Gibson (1921-2007).
Mrs. Gibson is survived by her daughter, Karen M. Simmons, Powder Springs, GA; granddaughter, Karla M. Curtis, Atlanta, GA; grandson, Jay (Christie) Curtis, Beverly Hills, Michigan; great grandchildren, Brennan and Caitlyn Curtis, Michigan; sisters, Julia Ann (Saul) Summerall, Charlotte, NC, and Catherine Howard, High Springs, FL; first cousins, Al (Trish) Curtis, Peachtree City, GA, Nell Johnson, Winona, MS, and a host of nieces and nephews.
