ELEANOR HANDMAN Obituary

HANDMAN, Eleanor T. Passed away on August 4, 2024, at the age of 91. She leaves behind her niece, Lynn Lieberman; nephew Kurt Lieberman; a great-niece, Zoe Amowitz; and great-nephews, Ari Amowitz and Ben and Gabe Lieberman. Ellie was a successful business owner at a time when women in business were sparse. She ran a book club for years, loved to cook, was an avid reader and a skilled knitter. She was fiercely independent, but always made time to visit family or friends if they were hospitalized. She proudly lived independently until her death. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Handman; her father, Louis Handman; and uncle Benjamin Handman. Honor her by getting a COVID-19 vaccination and/or booster.

I was just about to call her to arrange a get-together later this month when I learned of her passing. The news left me deeply saddened. Even in her absence, I feel her presence-still active, still watching over the world and my life with that same energy and care she always carried.

We first met in the early 2000s, when she was helping me with a job placement. From that very first conversation, we connected and became instant friends. Over the years, I came to deeply admire her strength, her independence, and the genuine kindness she extended to everyone around her.

She was a remarkable woman, and her spirit continues to inspire me. My heart goes out to her family and friends during this time. Her memory will always be a blessing.

I met Eleanor over 3 decades ago when she worked downtown. She subsequently started her own business when few women did, specializing in IT placements when few women were knowledgeable in that field. I remember she loved reading and decorating, and most of all, her family. I admired her ability to bounce back from any obstacle she encountered and live an independent life into her 90´s. My sincere condolences to her family on your loss.

I only met this amazing lady once but what spirit and such a fierce character. She truly was one of a kind. I will always treasure the day we met.
