Eleanor M. Merritt, 94, of Providence, New York, passed away on December 30, 2024 at home. Eleanor was born on October 7, 1930 to the late Harold and Anna (Baird) Hicks.
On October 31, 1948 she was united in marriage to Howard L. Merritt, with whom she shared 55 years, until his passing on November 29, 2003. Eleanor was also preceded in passing by her siblings, Leon Hick, Harold Hicks Jr., Fred Hicks, Doris Neahr, Rosemary Shepard, and Gloria Young, as well as by their parents, Harold and Anna Hicks.
For nearly 38 years Eleanor worked at the MCA Record Company. In her retirement she enjoyed being a member of the Broadalbin Seniors, the Galway Seniors, the Rebekahs, and taking many enjoyable vacations with friends and family.
Eleanor leaves behind her loving family, including her children, Roger E. Merritt and Shirley A. (Thomas) Lorey; her siblings, David Hicks and Julia Hall; her five grandsons, Roger Merritt Jr, Jacob Merritt, Matthew Merritt, Christopher Lorey and Ryan Lorey along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited, and may call on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from Noon until 2:00PM at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville, NY with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams presiding. Funeral services will follow the calling hours at 2:00PM. Interment will be held in the Barkersville Cemetery, Southline Road, Providence, New York where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Howard. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Galway Ambulance Corps 2175 Galway Road Galway, NY 12074.
