Eleanor R. Raffle

1934 - 2025

Eleanor Ruth Raffle, 90, of Ruffs Dale, PA, went to be with the Lord on April 9, 2025, passing peacefully at home. Born on Sept. 2, 1934, in Washington, PA, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Otto Ressler and Sarah Ressler. She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Thomas J. Raffle; her children, Warren (Rosemary) Raffle of Ruffs Dale, PA, Dawn (William) Brown of Greensburg, PA, Terri (Frank) Wren of Peachtree City, Georgia, and Daniel (Cherie) Raffle of Dothan, Alabama; eight grandchildren, Nathan (Kelsea) Raffle, Kyle (Julie) Wren, Colby (Natalie) Wren, Jordan (Stacey) Wren, Alexander Brown, Aubree Brown, Garrett Raffle, and Kennedy (Eli) Yance. Also surviving are her five darling great-grandchildren. To say her life was full is an understatement. Eleanor graduated first in her class at Washington School of Nursing. When taking her boards, she scored third highest in Pennsylvania. As a nurse, she worked in these locations: Washington (head nurse); Uniontown; Beaver Falls (where she worked with a broken leg); Rochester, New York; and in Westmoreland County. She retired from Westmoreland Home Health Care in 1996, wherein she traveled countywide without a GPS. An avid reader, Mom's favorite author was Zane Grey, and she collected many of his works. In fact, she trekked west several times to visit the settings of which he wrote. In her younger years, she enjoyed horseback riding. She later hunted alongside Tom, bagging a doe, a buck, and even an elk in Colorado. A lifelong gardener, she harvested and preserved a plethora of veggies and fruits (aka she was a slave all summer!). Mom's greatest legacy was loving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and nurturing her family in His ways. We thank Bridges Hospice and all who lovingly cared for her. We love you, Eleanor/Mom/Nan. We will see you again! Family and friends will be received from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the Greensburg Alliance Church, 4428 PA-136, Greensburg, PA 15601. A gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, Monday, April 14, at the Greensburg Alliance Church, followed by a service at 12 p.m. A committal service will follow the service at Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
