Maria Elena Miramontes de Carrillo
September 21, 1938 - January 30, 2026

Maria Elena Miramontes passed away quietly surrounded by family on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the age of 87 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Born on September 21, 1938, she learned resilience growing up in San Felipe, a community near Colotlán, Jalisco, Mexico. She grew up the fifth of ten siblings, five girls and five boys. She attended school until the third grade, the highest level available at the time. During her years in San Felipe, she developed many skills she would then pass on to her children and grandchildren; sewing, gardening (both flowers and vegetables), cooking, knitting and raising farm animals. It was hard work, but all was done with a lot of love.

After marrying Jose Maria Carrillo at age 20 and moving to Colotlán, she created an inviting home always open to friends and family, earning the affectionate title of "second mom" from many of her children's friends. In Colotlán she was known for her warm and welcoming nature, exceptional cooking and maintaining a beautiful garden, passersby often stopped to admire.

In Colotlán, Doña Elena or la Señora Elena, how she was known by many of her friends, lived a vibrant life and enjoyed every moment around her passions: birds, gardening, her children and their friends. Her home was enjoyed by everyone who visited. Relatives from all over made a point to visit Doña Elena; she gave that comforting embrace found nowhere else. Many of her nieces enjoyed their pre-wedding arrangements under her care, and many more relatives confided in her during their most difficult and hard decisions of their lives. Everyone could always count on her.

In 1987 (at age 49), she moved to Las Vegas with her youngest three children to reunite with the other four kids already living there and immediately replicated her cherished garden. She focused on helping raise her grandchildren, 15 in total, and devoted herself to the wellness of her entire family. Always willing to lend a listening ear and an open house for all.

Doña Elena possessed amazing mothering abilities, was compassionate, true to self and had a fantastic sense of humor, teasing her kids and grandkids up until her passing. She loved music, nature and funny jokes, to the extent in which some of her children would blush. She was always positive, both with her words and actions; even in tough times she had a way to turn the situation positive.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Artemia Carrillo and her husband Jose Maria Carrillo, and is survived by six of her children: Federico, Aurelio, Enrique, Jorge, Antioco, and Yolanda Carrillo. She will also be missed by all her 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren who also experience her love, patience and passion for living.

A gathering to celebrate her life and legacy will be held on March 14, 2026, at 4:00 pm at her home on 1705 Bonita Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89104.

Rest in peace, Doña Elena.

María Elena Miramontes de Carrillo
September 21, 1938 - January 30, 2026
