Elena LaBarbera, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, was born on February 24, 1939, in the picturesque surroundings of Palermo, Italy. Her journey through life came to a close on January 4, 2026, at Hildebrandt Hospice, leaving behind a legacy steeped in love, warmth, and culinary magic.

From a young age, Elena embodied the essence of family. She was always cooking, her culinary creations reflecting the deep ties she held to her roots and her unwavering love for her family. She dedicated her life to nurturing those around her, a trait that will forever resonate in the hearts of her loved ones. Family was not just a part of her life; it was her very essence.

Elena was the loving wife of Salvatore LaBarbera, with whom she shared 46 beautiful years of marriage before his passing in 2009. She is predeceased by her parents, Agostino and Rosalia (Caviglia) Torres, and also by her two brothers and six sisters, all of whom have left an indelible mark on her life and heart.

She is survived by her devoted son, Vincenzo LaBarbera, and her loving daughter, Francesca LaBarbera. Elena took profound joy in her role as a grandmother, often delighting in the company of her granddaughters, Jessica Masisak ( Austin Harris) and Laura Gardinier ( Andrew). Her life illuminated further with the arrival of her great-granddaughter, Livia Gardinier, who brought fresh joy and pride into her heart.

Elena's presence will be celebrated and remembered through heartfelt services.  Entombment will take place at Baucina Cemetery in Italy with her husband, And a Mass of Christian burial will honor her life on January 12, 2026, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester, NY, allowing family and friends the opportunity to gather, share their love, and honor the incredible woman Elena was.

As we reflect on Elena’s rich life, we acknowledge her unwavering love and commitment to her family, which has instilled values of unity and affection in all who were fortunate to know her. She will forever be missed, lovingly remembered, and cherished in the memories of her family and friends.
