Elgin Garrett Obituary
**SERVICE POSTPONED TO FEBRUARY 7TH**
Elgin Garrett, age 84, of Hiawassee, Georgia passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026 after an extended illness. He was born in Hiawassee to the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Margie (Hollifield) Garrett on April 27, 1941. Elgin was a truck driver for many years and worked in construction before retiring. He was somewhat of a homebody, keeping to himself but did enjoy going to town occasionally to visit with friends and buy scratch off tickets. Elgin also enjoyed watching NASCAR. With no children of his own, he became like a second dad to his nieces and nephews and loved them dearly and especially loved spending time with his little buddy Luella. Elgin is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Margie Garrett; brothers, Robert, Delton, Kenneth, Wayne and Duard Garrett. He is survived by his siblings, Irma Selman, John Garrett, Merle Garrett, Roger Garrett, Sharon Hill and Larry Garrett; nieces, Robin Plott and Kelly Chastain. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and extended friends and family. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation: Saturday, February 7, 2026 12:00-2:00 at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home
Funeral: Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 2:00PM at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Nicholson officiating
Interment at Philadelphia Baptist Church following service.
