Battleboro, NC
Deacon Elijah "Bozo" Fobbs Sr., was born June 15,1934 to the late Willie "Jack" and Bertha Fobbs in Whitakers, North Carolina. He transitioned from this earthly life to his eternal resting place on Wednesday, June 11,2025 at home in Battleboro, NC.
Born the same year New Mount Zion United Holy Church was founded, he was a faithful member until the very end, serving the church in numerous roles. He served as a Musician playing his guitar, trustee, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and Chairman of Deacon Board. Deacon Fobbs served faithfully to the Wilson District as a Field Worker and was the Father of the Wilson District. His love for people showed in his actions of visiting the sick, bereaved families, and the members of the church and community. Deacon Fobbs loved and faithfully supported the Church and more importantly the word.
He attended the Nash County school system and was educated at Blooming Hill School in Whitakers, NC.
Deacon Fobbs worked most of his career as an auto mechanic, at Howell Buick Dealership in Rocky Mount, NC and the Shell Station in Whitakers, NC.
He is survived by his children Arthur (Elaine) Young of Charlotte, NC, Elijah "EJ" Fobbs Jr., Pattie Ruth (Sam) Richardson of Enfield, NC, Jimmy (Lisa) Fobbs of Garner, NC, Donald Earl (Cookie) Fobbs of Rocky Mount, NC, and Charlie (Bridget) Fobbs of Garner, NC. One brother Reggie (Vanessa) Clark, four sisters-in-law, Marilyn Fobbs, Frances Fobbs, Marganer Justice, Mariah Lynch, two brothers-in-law Bishop Zeno Davis, Jimmy Lynch, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; including his church family.
Elijah "Bozo" Fobbs had a love for boxing and enjoyed watching his favorite boxer Muhammad Ali. He enjoyed his walks in the mall, getting his exercise and sweet snack. You could catch him sitting on the porch in the evening observing the neighborhood, spending time with children and people who stopped by for a visit. Deacon Fobbs was a meek, humble, and patient man. He was soft but well spoken. He was loyal and had a pure heart. He was always thankful. Characteristics we should all follow. What an example he left for us to follow.
A visitation for Mr. Fobbs will be held on Friday, June 27,2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at New Mount Zion United Holy Church,8219 Red Oak Battleboro Rd. Battleboro, North Carolina. The funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at East End Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Deacon Fobbs was someone who served as a field worker, Sunday School teacher and an example of the believer in the Wilson District. His presence will be missed by many. He was an example to me when I joined the body of Christ - always with a ready smile and a word of encouragement. I believe he heard the Master's voice saying, "well done my good and faithful servant; enter into the joy of the Lord."
