Elinor Arsic Obituary

Elinor Arsic
Virginia Beach - Elinor "Nell" Arsic, 88, departed this life peacefully in her home Sept. 9, 2013 of natural causes.
Nell was born in 1924 in Troy, Ala. to Antoinette Murphree and Charles Brannen. She grew up in Alabama and went on to study her life's work in librarianship after getting her degree in Library Science from University North Carolina, Chapel Hill, she later earned a Masters in Education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.
In 1951 she married Velimir "Walter" Arsic in Troy, Ala. She was president of the Alabama Library Association and was included in the very first Marquis Who's Who of American Women. She worked many library jobs over 40 years but most recently before her retirement she was the librarian for the DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in Norfolk, Va. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, and had many friends there.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Antoinette Arsic and Andrea Friedlander and her husband Dave.
A graveside will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Rosewood Memorial Park with the Pastor Jonathan Page, offciating. You may pay condolences to the family at www.kellumfuneralhome.com.

Hi Antoinette and Andrea. My calendar popped up and I saw that today is Aunt Nell's birthday. When I googled her I saw that she died. I am so sorry. She was such a sweet Southern lady. Looking at her pictures I see the resemblance between the Brannens! Praying for y'all that God will fill the space she has left in your hearts. Love, Jaye

Antoinette and Andrea, I will always have many fond memories of your mother. We continued to exchange cards and notes until very recently, and I always enjoyed hearing about your family's holiday plans. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Nell will be forever missed. She had many loved ones and friends here at FCI. I especially enjoyed wathing her taking her time to take her medication just so her visits with staff would be longer. She loved to laugh and made other's laugh too. We shared a common cluttered desk; our theory is that we know where everything is no matter what anyone else thought. Thanks to the Arsic daughters for sharing your mother with us. Her legacy will live on in all of our hearts.

This woman was the best aunt anyone could ever want. She was my mother's baby sister and best friend. I loved her dearly. She will be a part of me forever.
