Elinor Tinto

Elinor (Breining) Tinto, 99, of Bloomfield, and Green Valley, AZ, beloved wife and best friend for 62 years of the late John E. Tinto, passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

Elinor was born in Hartford, daughter of the late William and Ellen (Smith) Breining, and was a graduate of Bloomfield High School, Class of 1942, where she was the class treasurer and on the committee to choose the class ring. She was employed with the U.S. Postal Service, where she held many different positions, and retired after over 30 years of service. She and John moved to Green Valley, AZ in 1982 to spend their retirement years in peacefulness and sunshine.

Elinor was a loving wife, mother, aunt, and friend. She will be fondly remembered as a kind and social woman who loved to get to know people, and after five minutes of being with someone, would know all about them. She was set in her ways and enjoyed doing things her way, but everything came from a place of love.

Elinor was a member of the Green Valley Arts & Crafts Club, Stamping Group, the Marine Corps League, the New England Club, and the Camera and Computer Clubs. She and John loved to travel worldwide and attended Marine Corps reunions and took many Shrine and Masonic trips. Elinor had a green thumb and loved to take care of her gardens in both Bloomfield and Arizona, and her many many plants. She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching the games until this past year….

Elinor is survived by her daughter, Gail Tinto of Bloomfield; nieces, Gloria Edgerton and Jean Tinto, both of Newington; many cousins in the Hartford area; and other relatives and friends.

Elinor's family would like to thank the nurses, aides, doctors, and social workers at Duncaster, McLean Hospice, and Heaven's Hands for their attentive and thoughtful care of Elinor. The visits from the therapy dogs always brightened her days and provided the best medicine.

Her service will be private. Elinor will be interred in the Veteran's section at Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield, to join her beloved husband, John.
