Elisabeth Oeller Obituary

ELISABETH OELLER

Born April 7, 1929

Departed November 1, 2025

Visitation: Friday, November 21, 2025 at 10:00 am

Service: Friday, November 21, 2025 at 11:00

Elisabeth Oeller, loving wife, sister, mother, aunt and friend was born on April 7, 1929, in Wegscheid Germany to Heinrich and Anna Stoiber. The fifth of ten children, her family lived on the farm, situated in the Bavarian forest, that had been in her family since 1550. She graduated from the Volksschule in Messnerschlag and at age 16 on April 30, 1945, one of the last battles of WWII was fought in her small town. Shortly thereafter she began education and apprentiship as a seamstress.

At age 20 she met Heinrich (Henry) Oeller, at that time working as a baker in a nearby village, and they married in 1951. In 1954, two years after the birth of their first daughter, they immigrated to the United States, settling in the Detroit area where Elisabeth's aunt and family were living. Henry began work at Sanders Bakery in Detroit and they had three more children, spending 60 years of marriage together until Henry's death in 2011.

While Elisabeth was in charge of home and family, she also worked Saturdays as a seamstress at JL Hudson in Detroit and later with private clients from her home.

Elisabeth's nature was quiet, calm and nurturing. She was an enthusiastic gardener and received awards from her community for her flower garden. She was happiest while tending a garden, knitting and sewing, cooking or reading. Each member of her family has some of Elisabeth's hand made creations, from mittens and socks to quilts for a newlywed couple. She was known for her apple strudel and she gave everyone their own tin of her famous rum cookies each Christmas.

Throughout her 70 years in America she visited family overseas many times and in later years remained close with sisters and nieces through regular phone visits.

Most important to Elisabeth was her family. She was mother to Maria (Richard), Wolfgang, Christine (Andrew), and Paul. She was a doting grandmother to Christine, Andrew, Katharine, Peter, Elisabeth and August. She delighted in great grandchildren Andrew, William and Millie.

Elisabeth was sister to Alois, Anna, Maria, Hermine, Heinrich, Otto, Andreas, Agnes and Angela as well as aunt and great aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 21, at 11AM at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers, Connell Chapel) 32515 Woodward Ave. Royal Oak (248) 549-0500. Visitation at the funeral home will begin at 10AM.
