Elizabeth Halbostad Baer, beloved mother, sister, cousin and friend, passed away from cancer on March 1, 2025. She was born in Oslo, Norway on April 12, 1961 to Oddvar S. and Mary Louise Hussey Halbostad. During her lifetime, she held many titles that were dear to her. They included mother, wife, daughter, sister, Nanny, second Mom, friend, preschool teacher, and most recently Customer Support Agent at DoTerra where she had the opportunity to speak Norwegian all day long.
In her early 20s, Elizabeth moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she would spend the next 16 years working as a nanny. Most of those years were spent with Jamie and Becky Cannon who became her "second family". She loved them all fiercely.
She married David Lloyd Baer October 17, 1997 in the Salt Lake City Temple. In 2000, she and David welcomed their daughter Kirsten. David's career meant that they had the opportunity to live in Salt Lake City, Utah, Portland, Oregon, Oceanside, California, Riverton, Utah, Memphis, Tennessee, and Shreveport, Louisiana. After David passed away in 2015, Elizabeth and her daughter moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah, where she served her family, church, friends, worked, and pursued a variety of passions.
Elizabeth had a heart of gold and was always looking out for those around her. We would often come home to the smell of homemade chicken noodle or meatball soup that she was making to take to someone. She was an excellent cook. Elizabeth was also a knitter and crocheter, in addition to a seamstress. Many have benefited from one of her homemade gifts of knitted sweaters, crochet baby clothes, and blankets, among other things. You name it, she could do it. Elizabeth was an avid reader, loved to travel and learn about new customs, traditions, and new things to eat. Everyone was a friend regardless of their circumstances or the language they spoke.
Her passing came too early, and she will be missed by many. Her parents and husband David Baer preceded her in death.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Kirsten Baer and sister Mary Halbostad both of Pleasant Grove, Utah, her brother Oddvar Halbostad Jr. of Fetsund, Norway, brothers-in law Roger Baer and Cody Baer, Providence Utah, sister-in-law Ashley Nielsen of Bennington, Idaho, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews as well as good friends here and in Norway.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Timpanogos Stake Center; 800 North 100 West, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing before the service at the church from 9:00 - 10:45 AM. The interment will follow the funeral at the Lehi City Cemetery.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com.
