St. Johnsbury, VT: Elizabeth “Betty” Mae Counter, age 85, died October 1, 2025, at St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab following a brief decline in her health.

Betty was born in Corinth, NY, on November 13, 1939, daughter to the late John A. and Nelly (Carter) Ducharme. She was raised and educated in West Burke & Lyndonville and lived all her life in the area, having resided in St. Johnsbury for over 35 years and worked at St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab for more than 30 years. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, watching movies, and having dinner out every now and then, but her favorite thing was BINGO. She played regularly at the St. Johnsbury Good Living Senior Center on Mondays and at the Fr. Lively Center Saturday nights.

Betty is survived by her 4 children: Darlene Stone of St. Johnsbury, Larry Counter also of St. Johnsbury, Patty Counter of FL, Gary Counter of TN, several grandchildren, a brother: Bob Ducharme and wife, Marcia, of Manchester, NH. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald and her brother, Dean Rexford.

A funeral service will be held at 1PM on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street in St. Johnsbury. Friends may call on the family from 12 noon until the hour of Service.
