Elizabeth Ann (O'Brien) Bogutt of Wakefield, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27th. She was the beloved wife of Peter Klaus Bogutt for 55 years. Elizabeth grew up in Cranston and was the daughter of the late James P. and Anna E. (Barber) O'Brien. Jim O'Brien was a reporter and the manager of the Cranston office of the Providence Journal for many years.
Elizabeth was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and received a Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Massachusetts-Boston. She worked in Massachusetts as an Intensive Family Support Coordinator, first for the ARC of South Norfolk County and later for Brockton Area Multi Service Inc. She provided counseling and case management to children with disabilities and their families. Elizabeth was very invested in her clients and was a strong advocate for increased services for the special needs population.
She also taught classes at the University of Rhode Island as an adjunct faculty member and served as a facilitator for a poetry group at the South Kingstown Senior Center, as well as a monthly book chat at The Village at Worden Pond Cultural Library. She shared her poetry workshops in the community and was a member of the Thursday Writing Group in Raw Deals.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bogutt is survived by her daughter, Andrea Penta and her husband, Patrick, of East Providence; her son, Michael Bogutt and his wife, Lindsey of East Providence; and two grandchildren, Sean Conners of Danvers, MA and Mary Penta of Columbus, OH. She was the sister-in-law of Sabine Blank and her husband, Rainer, and the aunt by marriage of Christian, Matthias, and Benjamin Blank of Hanover, Germany.
Elizabeth loved being with her family, including Harry, the wirehaired dachshund. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach and writing creatively.
A memorial service will be held for Elizabeth on Friday, March 6th at 10 am in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, 02879.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the South Kingstown Animal Shelter or Animal Rescue Rhode Island would be greatly appreciated.
