Betty Rossiter Ditter, age 88, of Dunellen, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, in Dunellen. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Joseph Ditter. Born on May 17, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late William and Josephine (Jagoe) Rossiter. Betty dedicated her life to caring for others. She was a proud graduate of the Saint Michael's Hospital, Newark Nursing School program and became a Registered Nurse in 1958. Betty devoted her career to serving her community with compassion and strength.
After marrying Edward Ditter, the couple settled in Dunellen, New Jersey, where they raised their four children: Eddie Ditter, Beth Ditter, Peg Ditter, and Mary Ellen Ditter. Betty became a beloved fixture at Somerset Hospital and later at Greenbrook Manor Nursing Home. Following her husband's retirement, Betty and Ed moved to Ocala, Florida, where she continued her work in nursing at two local facilities.
After Ed's passing in 2002, Betty returned to Dunellen and resumed her position at Somerset Hospital, continuing her service until her retirement at the age of 80.
A deeply rooted member of the Dunellen community, Betty was well known for her commitment to helping others. She was a proud and active member of the Dunellen Rescue Squad, where she was affectionately known as one of the "Three Bettys." Her dedication to community service and her ever-present warmth left a lasting impact on those around her.
Above all, Betty loved being with her family. Whether cheering on her children or grandchildren at local sports fields in Dunellen or traveling to California parks to support them, she was their greatest fan and fiercest supporter.
Betty is survived by her children Eddie, Beth, Peg, and Mary Ellen; her beloved grandchildren Melissa Walsh Haynie, Kyle Ditter, DJ Ditter, and Kirk Hasson; her sister, Sr. Janet Rossiter, and her brother, Timothy Rossiter. She also leaves behind nine nieces and nephews, along with many great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom she loved spending time with during cherished family reunions.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Edward Ditter, her parents William and Josephine Rossiter, her brother William Rossiter, and her sister Margaret Rossiter D'Angelo.
In her later years, Betty was lovingly cared for by her children Eddie and Beth as she bravely faced a seven-year battle with dementia. Her strength, kindness, and devotion to her family and community will never be forgotten.
Betty will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral mass on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church at 10:30 AM with Rev Robert V. Meyers officiating. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Betty's memory may be made to the Dunellen Rescue Squad, 311 North Avenue, Dunellen, NJ 08812 would be appreciated.
