Elizabeth Homstad, 86, of
Warren, MN, formerly of
Hallock, MN, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at her home in
Warren, MN.
Mary Elizabeth Anne Costin was born on May 18, 1939 in Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada to George and Louise (Glidden) Costin. Because of the death of her father, she moved with her mother and family to
Hallock, MN when she was three weeks old. Elizabeth was raised in Hallock and graduated from Hallock High School in 1957. On August 30, 1958, she married Charles W. Homstad at the First Presbyterian Church in Hallock. She worked as a nursing assistant at the Kittson Memorial Hospital while in high school and continued there until 1960. In 1962, they moved to
Warren, MN. She worked at the Diamond Clothing Store in Warren form 1968-1974. From 1974 – 1988, Elizabeth was a Tupperware dealer and a manager for two years. In 1989, they moved back to Hallock where Elizabeth was employed at the Kittson Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home until 2002. Charles died on December 18, 2003. Elizabeth moved back to Warren in 2018.
She loved spending time her grandchildren as well as traveling. She had the privilege of going to Israel several times. Elizabeth became a follower of Christ (Born Again) on October 6, 1982 and had a burning desire to see others come to Christ as their personal Savior. She attended mainly Assembly of God Church meetings after asking Jesus into her heart. Elizabeth had a balloon ministry after her work retirement and Smiley the Clown appeared at children's events and made balloon animals and shapes.
Elizabeth was a people person who enjoyed baking for others. She was always willing to listen and pray with people – even strangers.
Family members include daughter, Cathy (Mark) Haakenson of Oslo, MN; son, Bruce (Carrie) Homstad of Kansas City, MO; two grandchildren, John (Natasha Alden) Haakenson of Longview, WA and Abby (Jack) Bauska of Castle Rock, WA; three great-grandchildren, Quincy and Franklin Bauska and Ethan Haakenson; sister, Marilyn Gravgaard (Greg Toutges); sisters-in-law, Annamarie Costin and Shirley Homstad and brothers-in-law, Bruce Aasleson and Don Johnson and many friends she has made and loved through the years and now those at the Landmark Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Costin and Louis Costin Gravgaard; stepfather, Nels Gravgaard; husband, Chuck; brothers, Kenneth Costin and Calvin Costin; sisters, Barb Swenson and Margaret Aasleson; brothers-in-law, Leroy Swenson, Kenneth Homstad, Russel Homstad, Arnold Homstad, Lawrence Homstad and Lowell Homstad and sisters-in-law, Ruth Costin, Eleanor Abney and Alice Homstad.
Services are being planned for the Spring/Summer of 2026.
