Elizabeth "Belle" Kern, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and selflessness.
Born in Pennsylvania and raised in Florida, Belle met the love of her life, John Kern, at the young age of 14 when he moved in across the street. Their childhood friendship blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and together they shared 62 beautiful years of marriage.
“Belle was the proud sister of Anthony Zeoli, mother of two children, Tina Marie Holloway and John Richard Kern. She also cherished her role as “Gram” to her granddaughter Kristina McDonald and delighted in the joy of her great-grandson, Mason McDonald, who always brought a sparkle to her eyes.”
In her younger years, Belle pursued her passion as a talented hairdresser. Her clients adored her not only for her skill but also for the warmth and kindness she showed everyone she met. When her son John Richard faced health challenges, Belle set aside her career without hesitation to dedicate herself fully to his care. For decades, she loved and supported him with unwavering strength, remaining by his side until his passing at age 43. Her life was a true example of sacrifice, resilience, and the immeasurable love of a mother.
Belle found peace and happiness in the beauty of nature. She especially loved the Blue Ridge Parkway and the quiet strength of trees, which reminded her of endurance and renewal. Her family takes comfort in knowing her spirit will live on in the places she treasured most.
She will be remembered for her gentle heart, her devotion to her family, and the countless ways she gave of herself to those she loved.
The family will receive friends at Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane, Owings, MD 20736 on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm where a Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to plant a tree in her memory in the North Carolina National Forest, honoring her lifelong love of nature: Plant a Tree - NC National Forest.
Belle's presence will be deeply missed, but her love will live on in the roots she planted in her family and the memories that will forever shade their hearts.
