Elizabeth Jean Looker, age 72, of Gladwin, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. She was born on August 27, 1952, the daughter of James and Elaine (White) Mather, in Gladwin. On July 15, 1972, Liz married the love of her life, Martin Looker. Together they shared 53 years filled with love and cherished memories. She was employed as a closing specialist at Deshano Companies for 21 years and worked as the Buckeye Township Treasurer for 16 years before her retirement.
Liz was generous with her time, working for her church for 50+ years, Gladwin Area Friends of the Theatre for 20+ years, and Boy Scout Troop 779 for 25+ years. She worked as the treasurer for all of these groups and others, keeping them moving smoothly and helping others to do what they loved. She loved singing, devoting 60 years to singing at church, and was a founding member of the Gladwin Community Christian Choir. She was patriotic, loving her country and proud to be a veteran’s wife. For the past 14 years, she has helped as a chase driver for her family's epic kayaking trip from Copper Harbor to Gladwin; camping all over the Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula and driving her paddlers wherever they needed to go. She was rarely in the boat, but without her they couldn't have done what they did. Liz was the one who let those around her achieve and she was just as proud of their accomplishments as she was of her own many achievements.
She is survived by her beloved husband: Martin; children: Jim (Darlene) Looker, Matt (Sherry) Looker, and Lynda (Kent) Crawford; grandchildren: Devon (Brittany), Jason, Gabriel, Trinity, Madeline, and Brittany; and siblings: Bill Mather of Gladwin and Martha Hilton of Fayetteville, AR.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elaine.
