Elizabeth "Betsy" Anne May, 77, of Fairmont, West Virginia, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born in Fairmont, West Virginia, on March 14, 1948. Betsy is the daughter of the late Charles N. and Annabelle Morrison. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie D. May Sr., on November 10, 2009.
Betsy graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1966. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio, and married her first husband, David Ayers. They had two children. Betsy worked for Halle's Department Store in Cleveland. After enjoying many years in Cleveland, Betsy moved back to Fairmont, West Virginia, with her second husband, Willie D. May, where she worked at Wishing Well Nursing Home until retiring.
Betsy enjoyed traveling and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially during gatherings and cookouts "on the hill". Betsy and her daughter never missed a "good morning, baby cakes" text. She never bit her tongue and gave you the truth.
Betsy is survived by her brother David Morrison (Sharon), her sister Barbara Russell (Bill), and her close cousin, who was more of a sister, Sarah White. Also surviving are her daughter April Ayers (Daries), and her son David A. May (Jill), along with eight stepchildren; Willie D. May Jr. (Gail, Tamayo May (Septima), Anathony May (Glenda), Thomas May, Terry May (Rosa), Sherry Skelly (Frank), Tracy May, Mary Shaw (Clifford). She also has four grandsons in Georgia: Ty May, Zander May, Kaden May, and Kory Brock.
She is survived by six nephews: C. Michael Morrison (Dorinda), Troy Householder (Louisa, Max Morrison (Nikki, Joshua Morrison (Michele), Charles Morrison, and John Morrison. Six nieces: Kim Griffin (Larry), Candy Bunner (Brian), Renne Proffitt, Tawnya Royce (Randy), Chelsea Garlow (Tim), Tracie Shipley, and a host of great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by a close aunt, Hazel (Shorty) Rushton, and three brothers: Charles "Bill" Morrison, Ruben "Rick" Morrison (Kay), and John Morrison.
In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
Some final words from her- "Alright honey bunny, go do what you do!" - Betsy, 2025.
