Elizabeth “Irene” McWhorter, born December 18, 1922, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025. She was surrounded by her family at her home of 74 years on John Burruss Road.
Irene went home at the age of 102 years old. Mom is a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she taught and mentored many throughout the years. She also was a founding member of WMU at Friendship. She loved her church and her church family, but more importantly, she loved the Lord. It was because of that love for the Lord she was able to love and raise her family with so much love that it is hard to describe. We are all so blessed to be able to call her Mom, Granny, Mimi, and friend. Now she is celebrating that glad reunion day! What a day that will be!
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marshall Edwin McWhorter; son, Phil Randy McWhorter.
She is survived by her loving children, Wanda (Rupert) Harris, Scott (Cynthia) McWhorter; daughter-in-law, Mary McWhorter; grandchildren, Mary Ann Darnell, Shawn (Raymond) Swofford, Paula Disharoon (Brice Foster), Tianna (Dave) Mashburn, Ashley (Edgar) Fuentes Raya, Amber McWhorter (Chris Freeman); 10 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sisters, Wynette Teems, Joann McWhorter.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 20th, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Byrd, Rev. Bud Sutton, and Rev. Carter Payne officiating. The interment will follow at Sawnee View Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Sunday, January 19th, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and again on Monday, from 9:00 AM until the hour of service.
