Melvin (Pop) Richards, age 93 of Alpharetta, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 20, 2025. All aspects of Pop’s life were centered around God, family and friends. He faithfully served as a Baptist Minister since his Ordination on September 18, 1964. As loving Pastor of 10 Baptist churches throughout the North Georgia area, he had the honor to baptize 118 individuals and witness an additional 58 that joined the churches he was serving. Pop went to work at the Coca-Cola bottling in Atlanta when he was 16 years old. He worked there for 4 years before joining General Motors Doraville Assembly Plant where he retired after 30 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his son, Melvin Robert (Bobby) Richards Jr. and the love of his life of 70 years Geraldine (Duncan) Richards. He is survived by, daughter, Dianne English (Michael) of Roxboro, North Carolina and sons, Danny Richards (Jan) of Talking Rock, Ricky Richards (Emily) of Canton. He is survived by six grandsons, Brian English (Melissa) of Roxboro, North Carolina, Chad Richards (Jamie) of Jasper, John English & Lisa Bridges of Asheville, North Carolina, Casey Richards (Amy) of Ellijay, Kyle Richards (Deanne) of Ashburn, Sam Richards (Candace) of Cumming. He is survived by nine great-grandchildren, Cassidy Richards, Wyatt Richards, Eli Richards, Judd Richards, Callie Richards, Barrett Richards, Jase Richards, Kinslee Richards, and Everly Richards. He is also survived by his beloved Caregivers Renee Freeman, Linda Tanner, Tina Durham of Senior Helpers, alone with the loving staff of the Retreat at Jasper.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday November 23, 2025 at 2:00 PM Longstreet Baptist Church with Rev. Casey Richards, Rev. Kyle Richards and Rev. Doug Carnes officiating. Interment, Longstreet Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday November 22 from 1 PM until 8 PM, and Sunday November 23 from 11 AM until 1 PM at Ingram’s Funeral Home Cumming Georgia. Flowers accepted or donations to Longstreet Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
