Elizabeth Metcalfe Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 6, 2023.
Elizabeth (Liz) Mozelle Davis Metcalfe passed away from this life on Earth to her eternal home in heaven on December 4, 2023.
Liz was born on October 8, 1934 in Fort Worth, Texas to Walter Ramsey Davis and Minnie Eva Davis. Liz grew up in Austin, sharing her home with her parents and sisters Ruth and Doe. After graduating from Austin High School in 1952, she worked at Scarbroughs Department Store on Congress Avenue as a personal shopper where she met her future husband Ted Bailey. Liz and Ted married on March 12, 1954 and later had two sons Ron and Frank. Ted worked for many years at the Texas Highway Department while Liz was a stay-at-home mom to Ron and Frank. Ted passed away in 1985.
Years later, during an Austin High School reunion, Liz reconnected with Don Metcalfe of Clifton, Texas. Liz and Don were friends in high school and they married on July 28, 2012. Liz moved to Clifton where she lived until 2022. Liz often talked about her years in Clifton with Don and how much she loved living there. After Don's death, Liz moved back to Austin to be close to her sons and daughter-in-law Sofia.
Liz was a firm believer in Jesus Christ as her Savior and she loved Bible study. She also enjoyed trips to Fredericksburg where she would visit the shops on Main Street and eat at her favorite German restaurant Friedhelms. In addition, she was a skilled quilter and she produced many beautiful quilts. She also was very interested in genealogy and family history and proudly became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 2018. As she got older, she most enjoyed time with family and watching TV with Don.
Liz is survived by her sons Ron Bailey, Frank Bailey and his wife Sofia, sister Doe and her two sons Casey Knower and Ken Knower, sister Ruth's son Mark Widerstrom and daughters Vivian Garza and her husband Bob and Gayle Miller and her husband William, brother-in-law Don Bailey and his wife Charlotte and son Mark, Don's children Donna Dailey and her husband Steve, Joanne Corley and her husband Mark, Beth Phelps and her husband George, Mike Metcalfe and his wife Donna, and also her four cherished cats Little Bit, Fonz, Farkle, and Veronica.
