Elizabeth Schiff Obituary
Schiff - Elizabeth "Lisa" (Peters), known for her love and laughter, died at her home in Locust Valley, New York, surrounded by family. The daughter of Turner Peters and Mary Elizabeth Peters, Lisa was born on August 9, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri. Lisa graduated from Mary Institute, attended Bradford Junior College, and went on to earn a B.A. from Lake Forest College in 1975, where she met the love of her life, Peter Schiff. They married the following year, in 1976. From a young age, Lisa was a competitive swimmer. She raced at the highest level, and later, took her passion to Little Traverse Bay in Harbor Springs, Michigan, swimming along the Wequetonsing shoreline. Known for her artistic talents and creativity, she opened a toy store in Cold Spring Harbor, New York, The Painted Parrot, which she ran for many years, even as she raised three active children. She was a gifted gardener, happiest when holding a basket full of flowers, carrots, strawberries, and string beans, with a dog or grandchild jogging behind. She threw the liveliest parties; she designed the invitations, made elaborate table settings and flower arrangements, and was the rare host who could enjoy her own event. She was a vigorous storyteller, as anyone who has ever sat at her dinner table would know. A caregiver by nature, Lisa doted on her three children and eleven grandchildren. Every bruise, cut, rash, and broken bone received her immediate love and attention. Lisa would drop everything to support anyone who needed care, and this generosity of spirit extended beyond her family. Among her civic accomplishments, she devoted great time and effort to the success of Glen Cove Hospital on Long Island and the Community Chest in Hobe Sound, Florida. Lisa is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Peter; and by her three children, Teddy Schiff (Molly) of Greenwich, Connecticut, Jamie Schiff (Tyler) of Pacific Palisades, California, and Christie Schiff Fennebresque (Jack) of Palm Beach, Florida. She adored her eleven grandchildren, Chloe, Lydia, Eloise, Caroline, Grey, Sam, Edie, Oliver, Daisy, Merrill, and James; as well as her beloved dog, Taco. Lisa is also survived by her brother, Sandy Peters (Cindy) of St. Louis, Missouri. She will be joyfully reunited with the many dogs and cats who were part of her family over the years. Lisa will be missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known her. The funeral will be held at St. Dominic Chapel in Oyster Bay, New York, in early September. Celebrations of Lisa's life will be planned in both Jupiter Island, Florida, and Harbor Springs, Michigan, at dates to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glen Cove Hospital, which will go towards the Lisa P. Schiff Memorial Fund.
