It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Elizabeth Kathleen Shay (Liz), on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. Liz passed peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Schuylkill Haven on March 3, 1989. Elizabeth was the adored daughter of Richard and Heidi Shay and Linda Vaughn.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth is survived by her brothers, sister in laws, nieces and nephews; Craig Barket (Nathan and Clara), Jordan and Kristen Barket (Levi, Micah and Naomi) Benjamin and Adrienne Barket (Boaz, Ezra and Anna), Bradley and April Hoy(Jonathan and Samantha); many loving aunts, uncles and cousins, all who shared in her joyful spirit. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Elizabeth was a graduate of Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29, Class of 2010. Escorted by her brother, Craig, Elizabeth was crowned Queen of the Prom her Senior year.
If you ever had the pleasure of meeting Elizabeth, we know her memory will forever be etched in your heart. And if you were fortunate enough to receive one of her hugs, you would never forget it. It remains forever imprinted on your heart and ribs.
Her love was innocent, pure, that of a child. She was witty, observant, and had the most astounding memory. Her days were filled with music from every genre and she often could be found rocking and singing to her favorite tunes. Although autistic, Elizabeth’s keen sense of perception made her intensely empathetic.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Kimmel’s Church, Orwigsburg, on Saturday, November 29, at 10 AM with Pastor Preston Broadhurst officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Autism Society of America in Elizabeth’s memory.
Although Elizabeth’s physical presence will no longer be a part of our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing and may we carry forth her legacy of empathy and love in all we do. As Elizabeth is made whole in the presence of Jesus, may her light and life forever shine brightly in our hearts. We have been truly blessed and eternally grateful to have had her a part of our lives these past thirty-six years.
