Elizabeth A. "Betty" Soeder, 84, of Peru, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Peru.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at St. Joseph's Church, Peru with Rev. Gary Blake, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Peru City Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00-10:50 AM Wednesday in the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.
Betty was born on June 15, 1941 in Peru to Carl and Catherine (Dondelinger) Soeder. She attended the local grade school and graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School, Class of 1959. She received her nursing degree from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Joliet in 1962.
Betty worked as the supervisor of the operating room at People's Hospital and Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru for many years and also worked part-time at St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley. She was a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses. Faith was very important to Betty. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Peru and was a godmother to many people. She was known for her generous spirit. Betty also enjoyed reading and traveling.
Survivors include her first cousin, Janet Benvenutti of Peru; many other cousins and friends; and a special friend and caregiver, Dianne Staublein. Dianne cared for Elizabeth and her late sister, Dorothy since 2014.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters, Susan Soeder, Caroline Weil, and Dorothy Soeder.
