Elizabeth Louise Lamb was born on June 18, 1937, to her parents Charles Robert Durley Lamb and Ellen Louise Thomas Lamb in Des Moines, Iowa. She was Baptized in the Plymouth Congregational Church in Des Moines at the age of 2. She was married to Wayne Verne Tatge on June 17, 1961, at the Urbandale Congregational Church in Urbandale, Iowa. Betty was Confirmed at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa as an adult.
Betty's father owned a small dairy in Urbandale and in the summer months Betty and her sister would take turns helping on the milk routes and washing bottles.
Betty loved working in the various churches they called their church home over the years, always having a passion to volunteer. Wayne said that her career was volunteering. She taught school for a few years but loved to give her time to serve others. In our congregation here, that was seen as she was very involved in the Quilting Bee, the Altar Guild, Sunday School Superintendent, Vacation Bible School teacher and the "Story Lady" for our Little Disciples ministry. She also served as our Church Extension Fund Representative for seven years. She and Wayne were the folks who took our recyclable paper to the recycling site week after week for the past 17 years as the congregation was asked as part of our 125th anniversary to take on a task and carry it out. In the community she volunteered at the Scott and White Hospice Thrift Store for 18 years. She was a part of the Rusty Dusters entertainment group, a part of the Fitness for Life exercise group, and an avid walker, walking all of the trails in Temple.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Charles Robert Durley and Ellen Louise Thomas Lamb, and by her sister Eleanor Houge.
She is survived by her patient and loving husband of 64 years, Wayne Tatge, who was never able to convince her that paying bills online or by automatic withdrawal was simple and easy. She is also survived by her daughter, Sharon Kay and Don Gardner, and by her son David Scott Tatge; by her grandchildren Matthew Gardner, Daniel Gardner and Jessica Gardner; by her brothers, Joe and Margie Lamb, and Paul Lamb and by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Elizabeth Lousie Lamb Tatge lived on this Earth 88 years, 2 months, and 17 days. Now through faith in Jesus Christ alone she lives for all eternity with Him in heaven.
A funeral service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in The Grove on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 11 o'clock a.m. with Pastor John Heckmann officiating. The family will be accepting visitors at the church one hour prior to the service.
