Elizabeth Groh Titlow
April 25, 1923 to August 10, 2025
Elizabeth (Betty) Mildred Groh was born on April 25, 1923, in Philadelphia, PA, to John and Mildred Harris Groh. She survived the depression with her family and neighbors, including one boy down the street who would become the love of her life. She married Arden Paul Titlow, Jr., on Armistice Day, Nov. 11, 1944, in Glenside, PA. She and Arden had a son, Peter, in 1947, and built a house in Abington for their little family.
Betty and Arden shared a lifelong interest in antiques, collecting many interesting things and eventually sharing an antique shop in Abington. They enjoyed traveling to see the world and photographing it, and rented VW camper vans in much of western Europe on what they called their "Gypsies' Journeys." They especially loved the Alps.
In 1978, Peter and his family moved to the Wellsboro area, and Betty and Arden followed shortly thereafter in 1980. It was Betty's joy to spend time with and care for her grandchildren, who have many wonderful memories of card games, suppers, and afternoons on the breezeway at her house. She would call them every morning when the school bus passed her house to give them a heads up so they wouldn't miss it.
Betty sadly lost her husband, Arden, in 1985, after 41 years of marriage, and before they realized their dream of opening an antique store in Wellsboro. She maintained a loving relationship with Arden's sister, Lorry Mitchell, who was one of her best friends. She was able to continue pursuing her love of travel through her annual tours all over Europe and the U.S. with her friend, Ginny Sonneborn, and with her regular sojourns to New Hampshire to visit her girlhood friend and neighbor, Jeanne Burford.
Betty passed away peacefully at 102 years old at Broad Acres in Wellsboro, PA, on August 10, 2025. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Porter Titlow; her grandchildren, Meade (Sean) Ferrigan, Arden (Kim) Meier and daughters, Shaylee and Abbey, and Daniel (Carrie) Titlow; as well as her cousin, Linda (Mark) Tedford and nephews, Ed (Jean) Mitchell and Robin (Kathy) Mitchell.
Her family has entrusted her arrangements to the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA 16901. Betty's life will be celebrated at a private luncheon with family. Donations may be made in her name to Lindley Community Church in Lindley, NY, where she was a member for many years. Her family is grateful to have had this sweet woman in their lives for so many years.
