Elizabeth Mary "Betty" Walker, a long-time resident of
Spring, Texas peacefully entered into God's Kingdom on Sunday, January 28, 2024.
Betty was born January 4, 1946, in
Natchitoches, Louisiana, the daughter of Benjamin Murray Plummer and Marjorie Helen Plummer. Betty was a resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma when she met W. Bryan Walker. The two were married for 29 years and had two children, Michael B. Walker and Elizabeth A. Walker.
Betty graduated from Hillcrest Medical Center School of X-Ray Technology and continued to work in the medical field for the majority of her professional career. Additionally, Betty was a talented artist and taught classes part-time for several years at The Wishing Well, in
Houston, Texas. The Wishing Well was established as one of the first "arts & craft" stores in the area and was owned by her mother, Marge Plummer.
Betty had a passion for life and was never afraid to try new things. At the age of nine, she and a neighbor founded and ran a summer learning program for pre-school children in her hometown of
Verona, New Jersey. The student body of "Learn Before You Learn" consisted of ten young children who met daily in the basement of Betty's home. The program was later published in the local newspaper.
After having children, Betty, just like her parents, was committed to being involved in the church. She and Bryan joined Kinsmen Lutheran Church in Houston. There she sang in the choir and also volunteered for the Children's Ministry team. As the artistic director she created and designed all the costumes for the Spring production of Noah's Ark as well as the annual Christmas pageant.
Later in life, Betty engaged in several other activities which reflected her love of the arts, animals and volunteerism. She loved horses and when she and her family moved back to Texas in 1987, they bought a few horses and Betty began taking riding lessons. She ended up showing, both Quarters and Appaloosas, even placing Second in a pleasure class at the Appaloosa World Show.
As if she did not have enough to do, Betty (a natural actor) decided to join the Gainesville Community Theater and performed the role as Truvy Jones in the towns production of Steel Magnolias.
Betty was extremely devoted to her family, her children, her grandchildren, and her pets who will dearly miss her zest and loving spirit.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Marjorie Plummer and her niece Sarah Michelle Plummer. She is survived by her children, Michael Walker of Spring and Elizabeth Walker of Montgomery, her grandchildren, Tyler Walker, Jessica Waggoner, Sophia Steinitz & Ella Steinitz, her great grandchildren, Bradly Waggoner & Benjamin Waggoner, and her siblings and their Spouses, David and his wife Cindy Plummer of Conroe and John and his wife Lisa Plummer of
Houston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of her beloved pets, Jenny, Zoey & Sarah, the family asks that any gifts be made to the Montgomery County Animal Shelter at www.mcaspets.org. Details regarding a service will be made available at a later date.
