Elizabeth Williams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson's Funeral Home - Georgetown on Oct. 9, 2023.
Elizabeth Lois Keys Williams, 80, passed away October 9, 2023. She was born January 4, 1943 in New York City. She went to high school in the small Alabama town of Bridgeport, then the University of Alabama, where she earned a B.A and M.A. in English Literature. While at the University of Alabama she married her hometown sweetheart Robert Lynch Williams (also a student at Alabama), and upon graduation they moved to Georgetown, Kentucky, where they lived the rest of their lives.
Elizabeth taught eighth grade English in Georgetown before returning to school to earn an M.A. in Communication from the University of Kentucky. After completing her studies she embarked upon a career as a computer programmer, at that time a field almost entirely dominated by men, and succeeded in that career until her retirement.
Most remarkably, she achieved all this while raising two sons, with what seemed like a full-time commitment despite the fact she was also pursuing what was then a cutting edge technology career. Elizabeth loved quilting, gardening and literature.
She especially loved her hometown of Georgetown and was proud to have served many years on the Planning and Zoning Commission at the time the town was turning into the fastest growing city in Kentucky, and did her best to help the town grow while preserving the historical feel of the little town she fell in love with in 1965.
Eliabeth was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lynch Williams and her brother, John Keys and is survived by two sons, Patrick Williams and Alex (Suzannah) Williams and a grandson, George Robert Williams.
There will be a memorial visitation for Elizabeth and Robert Williams on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 2pm until 4pm at Johnson's Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to McCormick-Williams Art Award, C/O Georgetown College, 400 East College Street, Georgetown, Kentucky 40324.
