Ella Riley Adler was a star. She was a force of nature, and when she was near, everyone felt a gravitational pull toward her.
In her 15 years on this earth, she dazzled us with her light. She emanated love and joy. She was beautiful. When she walked into a room, everyone was drawn to her. She loved to dance, she loved her friends, and most of all she loved her family - her parents, Amanda and Matthew, and her younger siblings Jaden and Adalynn.
Ella shone on stage as a ballerina in the Nutcracker, appearing in over 100 performances with the Miami City Ballet at the Adrienne Arsht Center. Her magnetism radiated on the stage, where she belonged and thrived. Her love of dance continued at Ransom Everglades, where she performed on the dance team and, just a few weeks ago, in the school play.
Ella worked hard at everything she did. She had a precocious discipline and focus that belied her age. She did not know what it was to work at half-speed. She gave everything her all and because of that, her energy made her stand apart. She worked relentlessly at school where she excelled. She celebrated life.
She loved her friends deeply. She had a big posse of friends, both from Blue Star Camps and school, but Ella had a way of making each of her friends feel special. She was loyal. She was compassionate. She always believed in speaking up for what was right and she always spoke her mind, but with warmth and grace.
Ella was proud to be Jewish and was a member of the Ransom Everglades Jewish Students Association. She was the great-granddaughter of Holocaust survivors. She loved Israel and came from a long line of Jewish leaders with a strong commitment to faith and tikkun olam. She wore her identity proudly and loudly, just like her parents.
Ella is survived by her mother (Amanda), father (Matthew), brother (Jaden), and sister (Adalynn). She is also survived by her grandparents (Judy and Ambassador Michael M. Adler; Susan and Michael Klaiman), aunts (Jacqueline Schimel (Andrew) and Rachel Schapiro (Alex); and her uncles (Steven Klaiman (Alex) and David Adler (Cristina). She was the ringleader, mentor and idol of first cousins (Samson, Mason, Sloane, Cameron, Tyler, Dylan, Sophie, Reese, Brody and Joseph). Donations in Ella's memory can be made to the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, https://jewishmiami.org or the Miami City Ballet, https://www.miamicityballet.org/support. The service will be held Monday, May 13, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Temple Beth Sholom, 4144 Chase Avenue, Miami Beach, Florida 33140. Arrangements by Levitt-Weinstein Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert Memorial Chapel, (305) 932-2700.

"Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance, and when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance, I hope you dance."
I've just learned about Ella and her brief but incredibly full, loving and very happy life today. It's clear that she "danced" in every way imaginable through life, inspiring and helping so many, including some she never met like me. So Ella, I send you the biggest, tightest, warmest hug just like all the ones you gave those you loved and especially those who needed it most, and my gratitude for your example to the world on how to live. I'm certain you entered heaven to a giant round of applause! I know you'll continue to comfort and bless all who loved you as you cheer them on until you get to hug them once again. (P.S. I read that you wanted to run for president. If you decide to return and do that, you have my vote, and I bet you win!)

I did not have the good fortune to meet Ella, but I was so moved by her life story that I attended her funeral and have visited her gravesite several times over this year. I will forever remember the beautiful things said about her by friends and loved ones. She was an absolute gift to the world.

Ella was a bright star who will never be forgotten. She had poise and grace well beyond her years, and I will relish every conversation we had together. Thinking of her smile makes me smile.

Ella was my best friend. We met in 2016 at blue star. We weren´t in the same cabin but we were friends and got very close. I pioneer 1 i decided to switch into ellas cabin and it was the best decision i have ever made. Ella soon became my best friend. We are both dancers and we boned over that for many years. If we weren´t doing anything at camp we would go and did somewhere to practice dance. I remember in pioneer 2 ella got a letter from her mom saying that she moved up a leval at miami city ballet. I remember she w as sooooo happy and proud of herself. we continued to get closer and closer every year. she was my best friend and i could always count on her. In 2022 i went to miami and she came to my hotel. we ate dinner and went to the beach together and it was so fun. it´s one of my favorite memories with her. She flew dine to maryland for my bat mitzvah in 2023. it was the best night ever and i was so happy she could come for my big day. At camp in 2023 i only went second sesh. i remember right when i got to camp she gave me the biggest hug and started balling her eyes out. It was the sweetest thing ever. Every night we would have sleepovers in my bed and stay up late talking and sharing storys. We would always sit on our counselor phoebes bed and tell phoebe all about dance and what it was like being a dancer. I loved ella so much. she was truly a star and the sweetest person i know. i wouldn´t want anyone else to my best friend.

When I first met Ella it was my first summer at Blue Star. She was my first friend at camp and she made it so much fun. She was the first person I looked for when I got back to camp the next summer. She always had a good attitude and a smile on her face. One of my favorite memories with her are when we would play tetherball endlessly any chance we could get, whether it was at lake time or rest hour or twilight. Our games lasted forever. I am so grateful to have gotten those memories with her. I will always remember my birthday twin.

My daughter and Ella were classmates at RE. After reading the words expressed by Ella´s friend´s I truly wish they had been closer. It is clear Ella personified everything we want our daughters to be. She was kind, intelligent, passionate, hard-working with a huge heart. Like everyone in our community we are beyond heartbroken. Struggling to make sense of this tragedy. Unfortunately, there is little we can do other than let you know we are there to support you in any way we possibly can. As parents of fellow classmates, bunkmates and dancers we will forever hold Ella´s memory close to our heart´s making certain our kids remember her beautiful spirit and carry her inspiration with them always.

Ella was a very polite and educated girl. We had the opportunity to share some time with her while she was a student at Miami City Ballet. She shared many beautiful moments with some of our daughter's during class or while performing multiple shows with Miami City ballet. We also share beautiful experiences with her parents while waiting for them after the performances or after ballet classes. Her parents were very proud of her. My sincere condolences to her family and just remember the good times they enjoyed with her.

Dear Adlers,

I want to express my deepest condolences and support to you and the entire family. Ella, while I did not know her, was clearly a person who made impacts upon all who knew her. She was a special soul, and my prayer is that her short life be an example to all of us as to how to live life with intentionality, with thoughtfulness and with impact. Finally, may we all hold on to the clear sense of joy she had in life, which in no small measure was the result of the love and support she received from her entire family.

There are no words of wisdom to understand the tragic ways of the world. So we choose to preserve those majestic moments that forever belong to us. The legacy of a special girl like Ella will live on from one generation to the next. It was more than five decades ago that the Adler family made ours feel welcome when we moved to South Florida. It was a connection that would include our children then defy distance and time when our grandkids would share summers at camp. And now unforeseen tragedy begets bitter tears. All we can think to do is pray that biting pain endured by each Adler will someday soon ease to be replaced by precious memories of Ella.

I´ve been fortunate enough to be able to attend the same school as Ella since I was twelve months old. We grew up side by side. She was stunning, beautiful, bright, sweet, and compassionate.

Since I was nine months old, I've attended Miami City Ballet's Nutcracker yearly. Ella and I would always talk about it months in advance, full of excitement. It was fascinating to watch her grow and improve year after year as she danced in different roles. From an angel to a little mouse to a candy cane, she was such a talented dancer. We would often laugh about how, when she was older, she would play the fat rat king.

The other year, Ella danced as the line-leading candy cane with a hula hoop, and she would often tell me how uncomfortable it was to be the tallest candy cane compared to the other dancers. However, that didn't stop her from going out on the stage and being the fantastic performer she was. A little secret between Ella and I was that I would record a video of her dancing on stage, which we would later rewatch together. She enjoyed watching herself from the audience's perspective and giving herself critiques to reach perfection. We always joked that if someone ever caught me recording, I´d never be allowed back into the Arscht Center. The Arscht Center holds many memories of us, and it was such a pleasure watching Ella grow and perform over the years.

Another lovely memory of Ella is at the Circle F. Dude Ranch, a Lehrman-organized 3-day camp for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Ella was not too excited about this trip, just as she wasn´t too enthusiastic about Outward Bound at Ransom this year (haha). We were in third grade then, and the last thing she wanted to do was travel to what seemed like the middle of nowhere.

On the first day of the trip, Mr. Day, our music teacher, encouraged everyone to participate in the talent show, which Ella was very enthusiastic about. She came up with the great idea of her, Ellie Small, and I performing "Cups" by Anna Kendrick and singing along, and later that night, the three of us went up on stage and performed the song together. It´s one of my most fond memories with Ella.

Ella, I have no words to describe how much of an impact you have made on this world. I will forever remember your beautiful smile that could light up a whole room, your glittering eyes that shined like diamonds, and your genuine care for everyone else. You were truly one of a kind. I will forever love and pray for you and your family. May you rest in eternal peace.

I first met Ella on the first day of Level 1 at Miami City Ballet. We would have competitions in ballet class during Level 1 which was always fun to do. We would always watch Dance Moms together and always talk about everything going on in our lives. We always talked so much that we had to be separated at the bar during ballet class because we would talk to each other too much. She would always come with her strawberry acai drink from Starbucks and pirate booty snacks to ballet. She was a very funny and energetic friend and I was always laughing and having fun with her. Ella was an important person in my life because she was one of the first people I met and became friends with at MCB. Even though we couldn't always hang out outside of ballet we would make it the most by hanging out in ballet or always texting each other. She was one of my best friends from ballet since day 1. She was always there for me and had my back all the time. I still can't believe this happened and I miss her so so so much. I hope that in another life we can once meet again and become best friends. Ella will be missed so much and may she rest in peace.

Dearest Amanda,, Matt, Adelynn and Jadon as well as extended family,
Our hearts are broken over this devastating and unspeakable tragic loss, we too are struggling to process how something like this could happen to such a beautiful and devoted young girl. Ella was a ray of sunshine, a beautiful spirit who eminated kindness when she entered a room. I remember the first time meeting Amanda when I visited the house to discuss design work. Matt and all the kids were there prancing around in this fun loving and happy environment and you both were unfazed by the heightened sound and level of activity. I knew then you were both amazing parents. I felt an immediate connection to Amanda and recognized the devoted, loving, kind, capable and together mother, friend, and community activist, you are and was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with you. It was completely apparent where Ella got her, poise, grace, manners and kindness from the moment I spent time talking to Amanda.
The love and respect we feel for your family is boundless and we can only hope and pray that the memories you have built over the years during Ella´s short life will provide comfort in the days to come. Ella was a beautiful blessing and she will be forever remembered by all her friends and family that loved her and you so dearly. You are not alone in this grieving process as so many of us share the sadness and incredibility. We send love and prayers and hope that the devotion of family, friends and community will somehow provide comfort and strength in the coming days.

I first met Ella in kidergarten at Lehrman. As the years went on I knew Ella to be a kind, caring, talented, and amazing girl. Ella was always a great friend and classmate to all, but overall I know she always cared so deeply for her parents and siblings. Ella was always so talented in many ways but her ability to dance always stood out to me. When we where younger we went to Miami city ballet and while I barely lasted at the Miami city ballet, Ella excelled and soon enough was dancing with way older people in the nut cracker which my friends and I watched her preform in. Growing up with Ella was truly a blessing and her presence always brought pure happiness and a smile to everyone´s face. Ella will be incredibly missed and may she forever rest and peace.

Dear Amanda, Matt, Jaden and Adalynn... Words fail us all. While we didn't have the honor of knowing Ella -- I would learn of her dance accomplishments from Matt's posts and share them with my daughter as an aspiration. Dear Amanda, Matt, Jaden, & Adalynn,
I am simply at a loss for words. When I first learned what happened, my brain glitched. I didn't understand. It still doesn't feel real. I do want to express the honor it was to have worked with your family, Ella especially, brought out the best in me as a teacher. Her creativity and love of learning motivated me to create fun ways for her to continue learning and improve in the ways she could. She also showed so much pride in her brother and sister. She'd sometimes sit with us and cheer for them when they succeeded and root them on when they struggled. Ella was one in a million and will be missed tremendously by all who knew her. I hope you can find some solace in knowing how much she was able to impact others in her short time with us. I'm clearly not alone in my experiences with her. May her memory guide those she loved and continue to inspire the world around us.
