Ella Compton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Laird Funeral Home on Jan. 19, 2024.
Ella Joy Compton passed away on January 16, 2024, at her home in Nacogdoches, Texas at the age of 85. She was born on May 29, 1938, to Willie Alton Jones and Ella Gray Jones (Robinson) in Dublin, Texas.
She married her high school sweetheart, Billy Gerome Compton on April 26, 1957, and they moved to Nacogdoches, Texas shortly thereafter. Billy and Joy had one son, Michael Ray Compton, born on June 22, 1960. Joy worked for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator for over twenty years and for JC Penny's for the later part of her career.
As her name implies, Joy was certainly a joy to her family and friends. She loved being outdoors tending to her flowers and garden or going to the lake to fish and picnic with Billy. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, Ashley, and Kyle, who lived next door during their childhood years and were an everyday part of her life. In her later years, she often expressed how blessed she was to have both grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her life. She especially enjoyed providing sweets and piggy bank money to the great-grandchildren during their visits. Always an example of what a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother should be, Joy will certainly be missed, but we can take comfort knowing that she is with the Lord, free of the struggles and pain endured in her last years.
Joy is survived by her son Michael Compton and wife Lisa. Grandchildren, Ashley Kesinger, and husband Paul (Trapper). Kyle Compton, and wife Haley. Great-grandchildren, Leah and Lila Kesinger, and Martin Compton. Niece, Peggy Compton of Dallas, Texas. Sister-in-law, Marian Compton of Nacogdoches, Texas. Several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
