Ella Mae Hammaker-Toner -Deeter, 77, of Williamsport passed away on Thursday May 22, 2025 at home. Born June 24, 1947 in Williamsport, Ella was the daughter of the late George Hammaker Sr. and Martha Balliet Hammaker. She was the spouse of the late James (Jim) I. Toner Sr. They were together 26 years until his passing December 8, 1996.
Ella is survived by six children, Todd Toner of Williamsport, Crystal Toner of Williamsport, Martha Toner of Williamsport, James (Boomer) A. Toner (Christy) of Montgomery, Jeannine Toner of Williamsport, James (Jay) I. Toner Jr. of Williamsport plus adopted daughter, Wendy Phillips of Linden. She also helped raise Bruce Haight of Williamsport, Sandra Haight-Lingle of Muncy and Daniel (DJ) Engel II of Williamsport. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Hill of Lock Haven; sister-in-law, Marjorie (Mickey) Hammaker of Eldred; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rogers of Williamsport; sister-in-law Joyce Reeder of Jersey Shore; brother-in-law, Michael J. Toner (Deb) of Williamsport; brother-in-law Richard (Rick) Toner. She was very close to her best friend/soul sister, Helen (Rusty) Wilson of Apopka, Fl; her cousin, Leona Gingery of Jacksonville, Fl; her cousin Daniel Engel I of Williamsport and her good friend Sandra Walters of Jersey Shore.
She had a special place in her heart for all her cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews but it was her 5 grandchildren, Blake Haight, Courtney Haight, Michael J.W. Toner, Isabella Toner, Serenity Toner; 4 step-grandchildren, Michael Steinruck, Tyler Smith, Jasmine Staver, Alexis Smith and 2 great grandchildren, RavenKae Haight and Leon Haight that brought her the greatest joy. They were Grammy/GiGi's babies and always made her happy when she was with them.
Ella was predeceased by her parents, her spouse, James (Jim); her brothers, George Hammaker Jr, Lewis Hammaker Sr and Stanley Hammaker.
Family and friends were everything to Ella. She would do anything for anybody, because she had a heart of gold. She loved spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She could always be counted on if you needed a babysitter, but we always knew Grammy/GiGi would be giving the kids snacks or candy even if they weren't allowed to have it. She loved to crochet, play cards, smell lilacs, listen to her man Willie Nelson and watch TV especially WWE Wrestling with her grandson Michael.
The family would like to thank Wayne Urbine Funeral Home, Jersey Shore for handling Ella's cremation.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 7 starting at 11am at Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 3200 Lycoming Creek Rd., Williamsport with Pastor Don Lynch officiating.
