Obituary For Ella L. Salancy

Ella L. Hudson Salancy, 91, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Altercare of Alliance under the care of Absolute Hospice from North Canton. She was born August 21, 1934 in Steubenville, Ohio the daughter of the late John & Ida Dondzila Hudson.

Ella graduated from Steubenville Big Red High School, where she played the clarinet in the band. She loved to travel with her friends after graduation, her favorite trip was when she went to Daytona, Florida.

Ella took a job as a telephone operator then met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Salancy and married on May 11, 1963. Ella and Bob were almost married for 50 years until his passing on December 12, 2012.

Ella was preceded in death by her two brothers Robert Hudson and Ronald Hudson. She is survived by her son Jeff (Julie Recinella) Salancy; the light of her life, grandson Justin Salancy; brother Thomas (Hester) Hudson; sister-in-law Kay Hudson and many nieces & nephews.

Ella enjoyed working in her flower beds and sitting on the porch listening to her collection of wind chimes. Ella also collected ceramic bells, which she displayed in her corner china cabinet. Her favorite thing to do was spending time with Justin, whether it was building Legos, coloring, baking cookies, or just watching one of his many shows like Blue's Clues.

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Tuesday from 4 – 7 pm. Funeral liturgy with mass on Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church starting at 11 am with Fr. Michael Gossett officiating. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in Ella's honor to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601.
