Ella Marie Slaughter, a long standing member of the First Assembly of God and resident of Terrell, Texas, passed on July 26, 2025 peacefully at home at the proud age of 96.

Marie is survived by: her stepdaughter Virginia Hunter; siblings, William (Bill) Bushnell, Worth (PeeWee) Bushnell, Samuel O. Bushnell, Joseph A. Bushnell, Doris (Ada) Garcia, Martha Prater, and Betty Gibson; and many nieces and nephews who lovingly call her Aunt Rea.

She is preceded in death by her husband Norman Slaughter; siblings, Clyde A. Bushnell, John O. Bushnell, Claudius (Butch) Bushnell, Carl O. Bushnell, Ruth O. Childers, and Joyce (Ann) Huffman.

Marie was born on April 12, 1929 in Garland TX to Henry Ernest Atkinson and Mamie Evalina Rowelll. She retired from Qualex where she was a photo finisher for several years. Marie was married to Norman Slaughter on August 18, 1949 in Dallas TX and became a widow in 1983. She never remarried yet remained a loving mother to her stepdaughter Virginia.

Marie's life was anything but boring. Living life on her own terms led to many adventures. From the early days of jumping trains, riding in Play Days, to selling Avon and chasing Garage Sales with her sister Ruth, Marie lived life to the fullest. She was always ready for anything. Whether it was playing games, road trips, or rocking babies, - SHE WAS THERE. Marie had an open ear, compassionate heart, words of wisdom and unconditional support for everyone she loved. With all the changes in this world during her 96 years, a few things remained the same- her faith in the Lord, her loving heart, strong will towards things she believed in and her fierce dedication to her family. Marie was one of a kind and true to herself. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who love her.
