Josephine Timmerman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Music Funeral Home - Waycross on Feb. 11, 2026.
Mrs. Josephine "Jo" Sapp Timmerman, 95, passed away Monday, February 9, 2026, at her residence in Waycross, Georgia.

Born and raised in Waycross, she was the daughter of the late Edward R. Sapp and Ella Gogue Sapp. Josephine was the second of four generations to own and operate Sapp's Florist and was a devoted long-time member of Waycross First Assembly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elwin Vernon "Tim" Timmerman; her brother, James Neely Sapp; and her great-grandsons, Luke Weldon Bayley and Christopher Bryson Hickox.

She is survived by two daughters, Shan T. Walker (Paul) of Waycross and Kathy T. Bellamy (Mark) of Springfield, OR; her son, Edward R. Timmerman (Susanna Gwen) of Waycross; seven grandchildren-Ashlyn Thompson (Matt), Maghan Campbell (Jeremy), Adria Rollman (Trevor), Brent Bellamy (Cassie), Alyssa McClean (Jed), Heather Minshew (Robin), and Danielle Timmerman Justice (Ken); sixteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Guided by a formal education in hematology, Josephine transitioned in mid-life from running Ed Sapp Floral Company and three additional flower shops in Homerville, Blackshear, and Folkston to a distinguished career in the medical field. She worked at Shands Teaching Hospital, St. Vincent's Hospital, and Glynn Memorial, and later with the State of Florida, where she helped establish statewide hemoglobinopathy screening for newborns-critical work that identified abnormal hemoglobin in infants across Florida.

Josephine's personal life was rich with creativity and joy, and that same spirit shaped the places she loved most. Fernandina Beach was her second home, a place where her family returned year after year to rest, celebrate, and make memories. In both Fernandina and Waycross, she brought life to her surroundings-nurturing vibrant gardens, crafting her beloved cracked pot plantings, and tending koi ponds that reflected her love of creating peaceful, welcoming spaces.

A defining story of Josephine's resilience began when her husband, Tim, a licensed pilot, lost consciousness mid flight. With their three small children on board, she landed the plane safely-living through what had long been her greatest fear. In the months that followed, Josephine began formal flight training and earned her pilot's license, adding yet another remarkable accomplishment to her life's story.

Faith was Josephine's compass. Continuing a generational Christian legacy, she and Tim were faithful founding members of First Christian Church on McDonald Street in Waycross, where Josephine served as president of the Women of First Christian Church. Her spiritual journey grew deeper through Living Waters Ministries in Balsam Grove, NC, where she became a vital member of the ministry. Waycross First Assembly of God later became her home church, and she continued to minister in her giftings while remaining connected to Living Waters. Josephine traveled on missions' trips to Honduras and served for years on the First Assembly Intercessor Team. She loved Jesus-and she loved serving others.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Waycross First Assembly. The family will begin receiving friends at the church at 3:30 p.m. A private entombment will take place Thursday, February 12, at Oakland Cemetery.

The family would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to Hospice Satilla for the love and care given to our mother and to us!
