Mrs. Jeanette Moore Barber passed away at Novant Forsyth Medical Center on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the age of 91 years. She was born to the late George and Lula Flinchum Moore on July 20, 1934, in Surry County. She passed away on the 23rd anniversary of her mother’s death.
Her passion in life was always children, whether it be her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, or the many children she cared for with kindness and compassion at Jeanette’s Nursery. Jeanette retired from Northern Regional Hospital, where she worked as a desk clerk in the labor and delivery department, often saying there were many happy days at work, but also sad days.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ellen Bowman and one son and daughter-in-law, Nick Jarrell and Debbie; six grandchildren and spouses, Josh and Marla Galyean, Kip and Sally Galyean, Montana Galyean, Amy and Craig Faile, Scott and Shawna Jarrell, Patrick and Marlana Jarrell; fifteen great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Judy Moore; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Moore, Linda Moore, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Barber; three sisters Geneva Amburn, Kathleen Shackleford, Magdalene Lentini; and brothers, Melvin Moore, Charles Moore, and Mike Moore.
The family gives a special thanks to Deborah Gentry, Jan Atkins, and other caregivers from American Healthcare for the support and assistance they offered over the past seven years, which allowed Jeanette to remain in the home that she so loved.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Dale Wallace officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the vestibule of Antioch Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christian Women Job Corps (CWJC), 4700 Wrightsville Avenue, Wilmington, North Carolina 28403 or to Antioch Baptist Church, Well Food Ministry, 137 Antioch Avenue, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.
