With joyous hope in our Lord, our family shares the passing of Ellen M. "Elly" Barney, who went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 8:31 a.m. on November 20, 2025, at the age of 79.
Elly lived her life to serve Jesus. Her words, her choices, and the deep love she poured into her family all flowed from a steady, lifelong devotion to Him.
Her joy was never rooted in possessions or position, but in the presence of the One she loved most. She reminded her family often that her true treasure was in heaven and that Jesus was everything to her. Elly prayed tirelessly for her children, grandchildren, and even for the leaders of our nation. She became the faithful voice on the other end of every phone call-the one who gently guided others one step closer to heaven. Through every season of life, she served the Lord wholeheartedly and His faithful hand upheld her until her final day.
Elly lived out her calling through a lifetime of ministry. She served in many churches and Christian ministries across the years, always offering compassion, prayer, and encouragement. For 19 years, she faithfully ministered as a dedicated Hospice Chaplain with Southern Care Hospice, walking beside patients and families with tenderness, wisdom, and unwavering faith. Earlier in life she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from California University of Pennsylvania, reflecting her lifelong love for teaching, nurturing, and guiding others.
As "Mom Mom," Elly cherished her grandchildren, teaching scripture while sharing her favorite sweets over a movie or board game. For her grandchildren especially, Elly prayed her favorite prayer, asking the Lord to "...make His face to shine upon us." May we continue to learn from Elly's daily devotion to the Lord and her family, her exuberance even in the darkest of days, and her steadfast belief in the power of prayer. Her family and friends rest in the hope of one day reuniting with her in the presence of our Lord, whom she faithfully served.
Elly is survived by her devoted husband of 12 years, Ralph Barney; her children Joseph (Jamie) Righetti and Kimberly (Aaron) Svabik; her stepchildren Natalie (Tom) Jackson and Robert (Elizabeth) Krokenberger; her cherished grandchildren Tyler Castro, Alexander Righetti, Andrew and Joshua Svabik, Laelee Righetti, and Andrea Heffelfinger; Brittany Skarda, Ashley Spencer, David Jackson, and Matthew Krokenberger; her brothers, John (Paula) Gutosky and Bill (Diane) Gutosky; her nieces Alexa Ruby and Rebecca Gutosky; and her nephew John Gutosky. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Sean P. Righetti, with whom she shared 45 years, and her parents, Anne Allum and John Gutosky.
A celebration of Elly's life, followed by a luncheon, will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, @ 2:00 pm at Wisdom Church, 1665 Shannon Rd, Girard, OH-a place where she found great joy serving as a Prayer Team Leader and mentor to new Christians.
