Ellen Baxter, 82, cherished matriarch, known for her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love passed away peacefully on October 28th.
Born on April 8th, 1942, in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland, she was a cherished daughter of Anne Whaley and Bartholomew Corroon, and the loving sister to her ten siblings. Growing up in a bustling household, she learned the values of hard work, resilience, and the importance of family, which she carried with her throughout her life.
In 1960, Ellen immigrated to the United States where she met and married her devoted husband, John Baxter. Together they shared 62 wonderful years and built a beautiful family, creating countless memories. Ellen was a source of inspiration, always offering guidance and support to those she loved. Her famous baking and knitting skills brought joy to many, and her stories will live on in our hearts. With her exceptional photography skills, she had a remarkable ability to not only create moments but to capture them beautifully, preserving our cherished memories for generations to come.
Ellen Baxter is predeceased by her husband, John Baxter; her parents, Ann Whaley and Bartholomew Corroon, and eight of her ten siblings; Josephine "Josie" McKeogh, Kathleen Broder, Ann Theresa "Nancy" Mockler, Elizabeth "Lily" Daly, Pauline Reddin, Bartholomew "Barney" Corroon, Thomas Corroon and Bernadette Corroon.
Ellen is survived by her daughter, Geraldine (Michael) De Lanoy; grandchildren, Patricia De Lanoy and Coleen (Robert) Dumas; her two surviving siblings, Christopher (Doreen) Corroon and Margaret "Peggy" Egerton; sister-in-law Noreen Corrroon; and numerous nieces and nephews who will celebrate her life and the love she brought into our lives.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ellen's life by gathering for a time of visitation on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, from 3-7pm at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, 21 West Stevens Ave in Hawthrone. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 4th at Holy Rosary Church, 170 Bradhurst Avenue in Hawthrone. A burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salem Hills Rehabilitation & Healthcare Council Resident Fund, in memory of Ellen.
Ellen Baxter will be deeply missed, yet her legacy will forever inspire all who knew her. She lived a beautiful life, rich with purpose, joy, and endless love.
