PLAINFIELD - Ellen Lynn Bobzin ("Lynn"), 84, of Plainfield died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023, at Amita Mercy, Aurora.
Born July 23, 1939, in Berwyn, Lynn was the child of Henry and Ellen (Darling) Henriksen. She was raised in Hinsdale alongside her brother, Bud, and earned her early elementary education degree from North Central College in Naperville.
Lynn and her husband, Bill, met as Mary and Joseph in a Christmas Nativity play, marrying in 1962. They resided in Naperville, Elmhurst and Champaign/Urbana before settling in Mahomet in 1975. Actively engaged at Mahomet United Methodist Church, Lynn formed lasting bonds through Bible study groups and delighted in card games and social lunches. Across her lifetime, she devoted herself to teaching (K-third and day care), nurturing as a nanny, and concluded her career as a secretary at the University of Illinois. Her true passion lay in tending to children, a love that led her back to day care even after retiring.
With Bill, she raised their children, Daniel Bobzin of Mahomet and Dana (Bobzin) Villa of Plainfield. Her pride extended to five grandchildren and two great-grandsons. After 42 cherished years in Mahomet and the loss of her beloved husband, Lynn relocated to Plainfield. Despite her Alzheimer's dementia diagnosis, she frequented adult day center services, sharing happiness with her contagious laughter and positive outlook on life.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bill.
She is lovingly survived by her brother, Bud Henriksen of New York; children, Daniel and Dana (Omar); grandchildren, Dustin Bobzin, Tyler Villa, Danielle (Bobzin) Karl, Jessica Villa and Danika Bobzin; and great-grandsons, Ashton Bobzin and Jasper Karl.
On Monday, Aug. 21, Lynn was laid to rest in a private ceremony at Clarendon Hills Cemetery, Darien. The Daleiden Mortuary, Aurora, oversaw arrangements. The family intends to hold a forthcoming celebration of life at Mahomet United Methodist Church.
