Ellen Ruth was born on July 29, 1935, in Douglas, AZ, to James Walter and Virginia Amalong, pioneers who ranched in the foothills near the Chiricahua National Monument. Ellen graduated from Valley Union High School and attended nursing college at St. Mary's hospital in Tucson, AZ.
Ellen married Robert Eugene Glasscock in 1953, and they raised five children, first in Tucson then in Douglas. Gene and Ellen ran Glasscock's TV & Electronics and were very active in the ham radio community. They also loved camping and fishing with their family.
After raising her family, Ellen went back to college and earned her LPN, working as a nurse at Douglas Manor until she retired. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Douglas.
She was blessed with 49 years of marriage to husband Gene until 2002. Ellen met her elementary school classmate Earl Dees and were married in 2005. They enjoyed 17 years together until Earl passed away in 2022.
Ellen Ruth is survived by one brother, Jerry Amalong, Tucson, AZ; four children: David (Rita) Glasscock, Las Cruces, NM; Ron (Debby) Glasscock, Nampa, ID; Judy (Kenny) Plyler, Double Adobe, AZ; Joyce (Butch) Bates, Marana, AZ; 14 grandchildren, numerous great- and great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and 3 brothers: Bob, James, and Steve Amalong; 2 sisters: Gloria Kuhn and Mary Lindsey; 1 daughter, Janet (Avel) Dominguez; 1 granddaughter, Katy Glasscock; and 1 great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Bates.
Graveside services will be held in the El Dorado Cemetery at 1:00 pm on November 22, 2025. Located near the Chiricahua National Monument, east of Willcox AZ. A fellowship and potluck will follow the service at the nearby El Dorado Community Center.
