Ellen (Mahoney) Fantry, 95, of Lakewood, NJ, former resident of Staten Island, peacefully passed away at home on June 6, 2023, surrounded by family, after a brief illness.
Ellen worked for the New York Telephone Company early in her career and also spent 16 years as a manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. She was a long time member of St. Clare's parish in Great Kills on Staten Island, where she was an active member of the Rosary Altar Society. Ellen volunteered at Mount Loretto, a children's orphanage and at an organization to prepare and assist underprivileged women enter the workforce. She was very involved in activities in the Fairways community and always enjoyed spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by George, her husband of 60 years, in 2013, her son, Gary in 1973, and brothers James and Kevin. Surviving are her brother, Donald Mahoney, children, Dr. George T. Fantry (Lori) of Tucson, Arizona and daughter, Ellen Fantry Boylan (John) of Centreville, Virginia, grandchildren, Timothy Fantry, Heather Fantry, Megan Boylan Walston (Larry), Gary Boylan (Lindsay), Andrew (AJ) Boylan and great-grandchildren Sloane Walston, Landon Boylan and Piper Boylan.
Visiting will be from 5 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, June 8th. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 9th at 10:30 AM at St. Luke's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St.Peter's Cemetery, Staten Island.
