MONTICELLO - Ellen M. Gard, 83, of Monticello passed away at 2:09 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 21, 2025) at the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello.
Ellen was born on July 21, 1942, in Kansas City, Mo. She was the daughter of Arthur and Ida Mae Behnke. She married Jerry D. Gard on June 13, 1964, in Berea, Ohio. He passed away on March 18, 2014.
Ellen is survived by her daughters, Kelly (Wayne) Boerngen of Mason and Cynthia Dick of Monticello; grandchildren, Jayson Gard, Jordan (Tyler) Budde and Allyssa Boerngen; and great-grandson, Andrew Budde.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Ellen was a retired teacher. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Monticello, the Order of the Eastern Star in Ohio, the Woodlawn Country Club in Farmer City and the Decatur Ski Club. Ellen enjoyed waterskiing, boating, snowmobiling, fishing, bowling, golf, and was an avid dog lover.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m to noon Saturday, Sept. 27, at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Harrison Cemetery, West Union.
Memorials may be made to Monticello Faith in Action or an organization of the donor's choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at mackey-wrightfuneralhome.com.

I am so sorry for your loss. My Mom and Dad knew your parents some time back. Your Mom and Dad would come by and take my sister or I waterskiing with them at Lake Decatur. Mrs. Gard was my PE teacher and Health teacher. I will always remember her laugh. A beautiful lady, God be with you in this difficult time.
