Ellen Geerdes Obituary
Ellen Carol Geerdes 93, passed away on June 10, 2025. Ellen was born in Sheldon, Iowa on December 14, 1931 to Carl and Jacoba (Eerkes) Hirt. She attended elementary and junior high at multiple schools in Iowa, Washington and California, and graduated in 1950 from Lake Center School near Terril, Iowa. On August 5, 1951, she married Edwin Theodore Geerdes. On the Geerdes family farm south of Everly, they raised a family of five boys; Dale, Doug, John, D. Joe and Dean. After retirement in 1988, they moved to Spencer. They were longtime active members of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer.
Ellen enjoyed flowers, gardening, fishing, sewing and crafting, cooking, and participating in community and especially family activities. She was a strong, hard-working and kind woman. Memories of her will be cherished.
Ellen is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, a daughter-in-law, Barbara; her sons Doug and D. Joe.
She is survived by three sons; Dale, John (Karen), and Dean (Peg); one daughter-in-law, Kathy; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and two nephews and their families.
