Ellen Gilbertson

Ellen Gilbertson, age 85, of Mankato, died on February 8, 2026 at her home.

A private family service will be held. Public Visitation will be Friday, February 13, 2026 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary (1001 N. Riverfront Drive).

Ellen was born on October 17, 1940 in Alton Township, Waseca County to Erick and Lottie (Spoor) Witt. She graduated from Rapidan High School in 1958. On August 6, 1958, Ellen was united in marriage to Bennie Gilbertson. Many years later they divorced. She worked in packaging at Carlson Craft for 35 years. Ellen enjoyed deer hunting and fishing in her younger years. She loved her flower gardening, reading, and puzzles. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Ellen is survived by her daughter, Sherri (Bob) Iddings of Mankato; son, Jeff Gilbertson of Rapidan; grandchildren, Nick Thompson (Jeni Dahn) of Seattle, Sara (Josh) Groebner of Elysian, Kari Hoppe of Mankato, Jeremy Gilbertson of Mankato, and Lindsey Gilbertson; great-grandchildren, Brienna, William, Logan, Avery, Isaac, and Azalea; sisters, Lois (Allen) Ophoven of Sauk Center, MN and Vicki Witt of Wadena; brother, Louie (Donna) Witt of Scappoose, OR; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Arlene (Albert) Fitzloff; brother, Arlo Witt (Mary Peterson); three nephews; and one niece.
